Encounter with a Smile

Same bus stop. Same bus. Same traffic light. Same day.

Oh hey there's that girl again. Oh wow she looks stunning in that outfit. She had brunette hair with purple streaks and red beenie, a forrest green, button-up winter coat, and long, black, warm leggings. No one would be able to pull that look off like she does. She's so brave! Oh! And her sky blue mittens and matching sky blue scarf. I wonder what the story behind those is? Wow! That color is gorgeous! Sky blue. Like a new born puppy's eyes. Like a quiet, innocent little kitten, trying to jump to that one flower that she can almost reach, but never does. Sky blue. That color would look gorgeous with a deep navy blue.

The bus for her stop pulled up and I couldn't see her anymore. I looked around for my bus, but it wasn't there yet.

I wonder what she does everyday? Maybe I'll introduce myself sometime. Yeah... Some other time. We both probably have to get to work... If that's where she's headed.

And then my bus pulled up to it's stop. The clamor of people around me getting their things together and joining the rest of the bus riders was so familiar to me by now. I recognized it even as I was still watching that girl's bus drive away from the traffic light, and I too stood up to get on my bus, but without looking away from her's.

Ah lunch break! Wonder where I should go for lunch this time? Maybe... Uh...

What was I thinking? Oh! Lunch! Right. Can't wait for my regular dark chocolate mocha coffee! I've been craving it all day!

I sat down at my usual table by the window  in "Barkers Bagels and Friends" and waited for the waitress. How ironic.

"Here you go sir!" The waitress said in her normal cheery voice, as she placed a bagel on the table in front of me. It was the same thing every time. Nothing ever changed. "Sam Harson right? Your dark chocolate mocha coffee will be here shortly. Hope you enjoy your bagel with eggs and cheese while you wait!" she told me. She did something weird with her face, like a cringe. Or a crinckle in a piece of paper. It was quite odd. And then she walked away.

What was that? Maybe it was supposed to be a smile?

I couldn't tell. She just looked like an old lady with many wrinkles, trying to move the ancient muscles in her cheeks, but making a creese across her across her face.

Is that what it looks like when all people smile? I hope not. That was kinda scary, not to mention it wasn't very attractive.

The first time I encountered a smile... That was quite confusing. But it didn't change anything one bit. Nothing ever changed.

I wonder what it looks like when I smile... Maybe I should try it sometime and see how people react? Actually that's not a good idea. I don't want someone seeing something that looks like that on my face.

I stood pulled my navy blue headphones over my ears and smiled. The music played while I ate my bagel, and the warm light shining through the window made me warm inside. And as the tune humed in my ears, I marveled at the creative color of my headphones in the reflection they made in the windows. They were a dark navy blue. Like the ocean. There didn't stand out, but they didn't look ordinary either. Like smoothed iceing on a cake. And they would look fabulous with a light blue. Something like a sky blue maybe. Yeah... That would look perfect.
