Umm.... Long time no see? *Hides*
Ok so I know that this is the latest update of all time and I am so, so sorry! I kind of got my phone and computer taken away and then I've been on vacation with terrible wifi. I hope this chapter is at least a little bit worth the wait, I plan on posting on time next week (this week?) and once again I am so, so sorry for how late this is!!
I'm not sure what I thought we'd be eating, but it certainly wasn't tacos.
Alexis stirs the hamburger meat in a pan on the stove while the pan I hit James with sits to the side. Taco shells are laying on the counter, soft and hard shells alike, along with a bag of cheese and a head of lettuce.
"So," Alexis speaks up. She's tied her hair back into a messy bun and put on a sweatshirt I suspect she's stolen from someone. Maybe it belongs to James. "What's your name?" she asks. I swallow, trying to remember how to speak.
It's just a question, stop freaking out, I think. I clear my throat for good measure. "Raven," I reply. Alexis nods, pulling the pan of meat off of the eye of the stove and turning the stove off.
"James hasn't said much about you," she comments, turning to me with a smirk curling her lips, "but I get the idea that you gave him a hard time." I pale slightly, going a bit stiff. Is she upset? She doesn't seem upset, but I'm not very confident in my ability to read people.
"Err, well.." I stutter. I curse the way my voice croaks. Alexis' smirk grows into a grin.
"Relax," she laughs, "it's not like I'm gonna eat you." I say nothing, though I can feel myself paling just a bit. Alexis, seeming to notice this, grows more serious. "Wait," she says, incredulous, "did you actually think we were going to eat you?" I open my mouth to say something, but find that I have no idea what to say. Alexis snorts, laughter making her shoulders shake.
"What was I supposed to think?" I finally exclaim, and Alexis is trying to calm herself but can't quite seem to stop laughing. "You're werewolves! You turn into giant wolves! Your brother chased me through the woods!"
Alexis, whose laughter has slowed significantly, picks up the pan and walks over to the table. "Could you grab the stuff on the counter?" she requests, setting the pan down on a potholder. I comply, gathering the bags of cheese and the lettuce and taco shells into my arms, following Alexis over to the table. "James still wouldn't have eaten you," Alexis says, nose wrinkling. "We eat the same things humans do, he was probably just trying to scare you."
"Yeah, well he succeeded," I reply, my tone slightly bitter. Alexis glances over at me, something knowing in her gaze. She looks like she might say something, but then something else seems to catch her attention.
"Could you get the door?" she asks. My brow furrows; I didn't hear anyone at the door. However, I don't argue. I wouldn't be surprised if she could hear someone in the driveway, before they even reached the door. Not to mention the fact that despite the hospitality I've been shown -other than the fact that I was locked in a bedroom, a touch that I suspect was James' idea from what I've seen- I still feel like I'm walking on thin ice.
"Sure," I reply. I turn and walk across the kitchen, a room that I earlier noted is much less creepy with the lights on, and turn out of the doorway and into the foyer. Just as I am walking up to the door, someone knocks. Right, I think to myself, super hearing.
I reach out and turn the doorknob, swinging the door open. I am surprised, and a bit frightened if I'm being honest, to find two guys standing on the porch, each quite a bit taller than me. Not that that's saying very much.
