Chapter Three: Unexpected Understanding

Her eyes were starting to get blurry do to her tears, and Tiana had no choice but to pull over. Since she was near a park, she pulled into the lot and turned off the Lexus. After a while, when she got her tears under control, she got out of the car and made her way toward the lake.

She stepped onto the dock and started taking off her shoes. Once her feet were bare, she sat down on the edge of the dock and sank her feet into the water. The cold feeling sent shivers up her body, but she didn't care. Right now she was on information overload. She had just met her long lost father, found out she had been living a lie...and that she was already engaged to be married. Or promised. Whatever.

After a few minutes, she leaned back until she lay on her back. She looked up to the sky and tried to forget everything that had happened today. But, fate didn't agree with that notion, because her soon-to-be husband was standing a foot by her head. In a rush, Tiana straightened and wiped at her eyes, making sure there were no traces of tears.

There were no words that followed his entrance and Tiana started feeling a little nervous. How did he find her? What was he doing?

Her latter question was answered when he suddenly plopped down beside her and dunked his feet into the water. At his yelp, Tiana couldn't help but laugh.

"This water is cold," he said. His voice cracked, which made Tiana laugh louder. "This is no laughing matter. You could have warned me."

Tiana shrugged. "I didn't know you were going to do that."

Cyprian laughed. "I guess you are right. I apologize."

God, he was always so proper. Which, him being a prince, shouldn't have surprised her.

"No foul."

They were silent for a while until Tiana couldn't take it anymore. "How'd you find me?"

Cyprian looked at her, and Tiana felt like drowning in his eyes, they were so beautiful.

"I'm not really sure. But as I was driving by I noticed your car in the parking lot," he said, never breaking eye contact. "Then I saw you here by the lake."

"Oh," she said.

"Might I ask why you are so sad?" he asked. And, Tiana had to admit that he sounded genuinely worried.

"I just met my father," Tiana admitted.

"Lord Dodrescu is a great man." he said with awe. Tiana felt a wave of jealously at Cyprian's admission. He had spent his life around her father, when she hadn't known him at all.

"I'm sure."

"You still have a lifetime, you know?"

"A lifetime for what?"

"To get to know him." Cyprian finally looked away, then lay back on the dock. Tiana followed.

"What if I don't want to?"

Cyprian turned his head and when Tiana did so too, they were barely an inch away. Their noses were almost touching and when he spoke, Tiana could feel his breath on her mouth. "You do. You know you do."
