As they wrote of petals floating in a summer breeze.
They sold you stories of silk and velvet robes,
and earrings for your lobes.
You thought their world was beautiful and clear,
filled with perfect rhymes and sunny days.

Only silence through the day.
Too late, you ate those lies and rhymes.
You find no comfort in the dreams they sold,
no mattress beneath the sheet.
Tread softly, for you crush the souls and dreams of generations beneath your feet.
