Connor quickly turned over so that he was back on his back, causing me to jerk my hand back. He smiled up at me, chuckling softly. He reached out and gently holding my hand, he held it to his chest.
"Elizabeth, by now, you and I should both know that I like you. You may think that I only like you because I want to sleep with you so I'd have something for all the guys to envy me for, but trust me when I say this, I like you a whole lot for way more reasons than people would think."
I nodded my head slowly, "Alright. I just-" He quickly interrupted me.
"I wasn't finished. What I was trying to get to was that, I'd do anything for you, Elizabeth. I care about you, and I want you to understand that."
I didn't know what to say, or do for that matter. I cleared my throat, making it more awkward than necessary. "I need to use the bathroom."
I ran up and out of the room, checking every doorway for the bathroom. When I found it, I quickly shut and locked the door, going to splash water on my face.
I shut the toilet seat, sitting on it with my face in my hands. I didn't know why I was feeling so horribly about Connor, but my stomach was trying to tell me no, get out of there. Him still being with Ellie was making it impossibly hard not to feel awkward when Connor started sharing his feelings. After taking a few deep breaths, I slowly headed back for the guest bedroom. I quietly shut the door behind me, spotting Connor with his eyes shut on the bed. He was now under the comforter, looking at peace as he slept.
The desperate side of me wanted to go kiss his beautiful face, but the smarter part of me grabbed the extra blanket and pillow, moving to the ground at the end of the bed. Sleeping on the floor wasn't the most comfortable option, but it was the only one making sense in my head. I didn't fall asleep, but instead, played games on my phone until it died. Then I just sat there, in the dark, completely silent. It was enjoyable, just being able to think. That's why it scared the shit out of me when I heard a voice behind me.
"What are you doing on the floor, Liz?" I jumped in my spot, turning to see Connor, standing up from the bed.
"I don't know, I just felt odd. Go back to bed, Connor. I'm okay."
He laughed, holding his hand out for me to take. "Come on, I'm not letting you sleep on the floor. You don't have to worry, I have enough self-control to make sure I don't make a move on you." I sighed, still not taking his hand. Connor rubbed his face quickly, taking a seat beside me.
"What's up?"
"I just don't feel comfortable being in bed with another person, more specifically a boy."
He leaned his head on my shoulder, "It's no different than when we were lying in bed earlier. Just this time, we won't be talking, but sleeping instead. There's nothing to be worried about. Trust me, you'll be fine."
I shrugged, finally giving in. He grabbed my hand, pulling me off the ground. "I'm still going to sleep with my own blanket."
We situated ourselves in the bed, which meant Connor got comfortable while I just made sure we weren't touching each other too much. It took some time, but my mind finally wore out and I fell asleep.
****
I woke up to someone slapping my legs, causing me to jolt up in the bed.
"Where am I?"
Elijah was standing at the end of the bed, "Will you two lovebirds get up and help clean downstairs? It's a mess."
Elijah walked out as I looked down beside me to see Connor squirming around. His one arm was wrapped loosely around my waist while the other was under his head. My breath hitched at the sight of his arm. "Connor, wake up please." His grip tightened around my waist before he pulled me close to him. "Oh my god, Connor, please. Get up."
He moaned quietly, "Elizabeth, stop it."
I grabbed his arm, pushing it off of me roughly. "Jesus, no. You're having a dream about me."
Connor's eyes shot open, "What's going on?" I jumped out of the bed, smoothing out my clothes.
"I don't know, you just said my name after letting out a moan. I thought you weren't going to do anything to make the whole sleeping next to each other uncomfortable?"
Connor laughed, putting his face into the pillow. "It's a dream, Liz. It's totally normal and natural for guys to have. How about you just go help Elijah with cleaning, I have to take care of some stuff quickly." He quickly winked at me.
"That's so gross, I'll be downstairs."
I ran out of the room and back down the stairs, while Connor did who knows what. He was so sweet last night, but I can see that he's back to his normal self.
I entered the living room, immediately being thrown a broom, "Start sweeping, sweetcheeks." I smiled at Elijah, beginning to sweep up plastic cups and food. "Also, the other guys are making pancakes in the kitchen if you're hungry." I nodded my head, continuing to sweep.
Connor jumped down the stairs, immediately snaking his arm around my waist and pulling my back against his chest. "Hey, you're not mad at me, right? I'm sorry for what I said this morning, I know it made you feel awkward."
I got out of his grip, passing him the broom. "Your turn to sweep, I'm hungry." He smirked, grabbing the broom.
"You should have said something when you woke up, I could've helped you take care of that." I rolled my eyes, walking away.
"You're seriously disgusting, go find Ellie and talk with her that way."
Connor quickly grabbed my arm, "Hey, I'm sorry. It's a bad habit of mine."
I waved him off with my hand, "Whatever, just use that bad habit with Ellie. I'm sure she'll appreciate it more than I do."
The boys all looked at us, watching intently. "Can I talk with you outside, Elizabeth?" I shrugged, following Connor to the back patio.
"You know why I'm acting so close to you all of sudden, and not really caring if I was in a relationship?" I stared at him but said nothing. "Ellie broke up with me, the same night as your argument with her."
My jaw dropped slightly, "What?"
He stuck his hands in his pockets, shrugging. "Something about 'Take that you bastard, that's for all the girls you slept with and left in the dirt,' but I don't know."
I stepped closer to Connor, wrapping my arms around his waist.
"I'm sorry. That actually makes more sense with everything last night. Are you alright?" He tightly hugged me back, resting his chin on top of my head.
"I admit, it hurts."
I released Connor from my hug just to be pulled back in, "Don't let go just yet."
We stood there in silence for a minute or so before Connor finally let go. We decided to bail on the guys and head out on a walk down the street.
"You know, I'm sad that I can't go for the full two months to prove to you and myself that I can commit, but at the same time, I'm happy she broke up with me. It hurts, but she's giving me the chance to chase after the girl I really wanted."
I glanced at him to see that he was looking at me as well. "Yeah?"
Connor nodded, and then his hand found its place in mine. I didn't pull away, partially because I didn't want to, but mainly because I didn't want to hurt him anymore.
