Hunter David was pronounced dead at 3:17 AM, May 31. His car crashed on a side road with no traffic, rolling 6 times before it finally came to a halt. No one knew where he was heading; it was a clear night, dry road, his phone was in his pocket, not an ounce of alcohol in his blood . The car was in perfect condition. He just.... left no warning. No explanation. No goodbye.
I remember waking up to a call from my mom. Hunter was gone. He had sat there, dead on the side of the road for three hours until someone drove by on there way to work and found him. He died on impact ,there was nothing they could do; that was it. I cried the whole drive to the hospital. Hunter was my only sibling, my big brother. He taught me how to change a tire and helped me do my homework. He was my best friend.
I relived that night in my dreams. It was horrible. I woke up in a cold sweat screaming. It was 7:04 AM. I woke Kyle up with my yelling. He brushed his fingers through my knotted hair and caressed my forehead with the base of his thumb.
"What the hell happened last night?" He says groggily sitting up and stretching. After we jumped in the car he took off toward his house, which was only a few miles away.
"I wish I knew," It all happened so fast. "Hunter didn't kill himself; he wouldn't. We need to find proof it wasn't suicide," I knew this before but now, now I was positive.
"Yeah, but how?" He says, throwing his legs over the right side of the bed.
"We need to go to his room maybe there's something we missed!" My mom hasn't touched Hunters stuff since. She still hasn't realized he's not coming back. No one has the heart to tell her
"You know your dad hates me right?" He's not completely wrong, but he's just... over protective that's all. I started dating Kyle junior year, he was 19 I was 17.
"He just wants the best for me that's all," I say getting out of bed myself. "He's on some business trip anyway he won't be home." I moved out into my own house when I was 20, it's not the nicest but it's cozy.
"I'm starving do you want pancakes?" As soon as I open my mouth to answer my phone rings. It's Taylor.
"Hey is everything ok?" I say putting her on speaker.
"Nolan won't pick up his phone!" She says panicking. "I've tried five times he's never done this before!" I can hear the fear in her voice.
Kyle dials Nolan's number. "Hello you've reached Nolan Payne leave a message after the beep."
"He's not answering me either" Kyle tells Taylor. That doesn't help.
"I'm sure he's fine!" I say trying to comfort her. "Do you know where he went after he dropped you off?"
Taylors voice is shaky, I can tell she just woke up. "I don't know, he just left without saying where he was going."
"We'll find him," Kyle says confidently, "he couldn't have gone far!"
"We'll pick you up in twenty," I say hanging up the phone. I brush out my knotty hair and pull on an oversized sweater from high school, "Let's go."
It takes 15 minutes to drive to Taylors house in Kyle's mustang. As we pull into the driveway Taylor darts out the door and jumps into the back. We head to Nolan's house first.
Nolan lives with two roommates, Jagger and Luke. We don't usually hangout at Nolan's house because, his roommates are supper sketchy, but that's the only way he can afford to pay rent. Nolan's parents moved to Florida when he was 21. They've never came to visit since.
Taylor and Nolan have been dating for 3 years.
Nolan worked at the diner across from our high school. Taylor came in every Tuesday and Thursday after school to study. Nolan purposely started picking up specific shifts and working overtime just to see her, until one day he got the guts to ask her out.
Kyle knocks on the door while me and Taylor stay in the car. Jagger answers the door. He's about 5'10 with black shaggy hair. He's wearing an old white tee shirt with some band on it. Kyle towers over him at about 6'3, but Jagger's clearly been in a fight before. "What do you want?" Jagger says yawning.
"Hey did you see Nolan last night?" He asks peeking in through the door. The place is probably a mess, judging on what Nolan says.
"He left at like 3:00 this morning, why the hell do you care?" He says defensively.
"Did he say where he was going?" Kyle asks dodging the question.
"He was 'clearing his mind' like I know what that means!" He says rolling his eyes.
" Oh my God!" Kyle yells sprinting back to the car.
He jumps in, slams the door and turns the keys.
"What, were is he!" Taylor yells over the motor of his old hand me down car.
"We gotta go now!" He yells whipping out of the drive way.
