his pallid, sallow skin
was said to be
another reminder
of what happened
to those
who let themselves
float away from
the shore
without a care
in the world
but skin can be
defamatory
and a picture can
paint  a thousand
different
words

the truth is
he held on
as tight as he
possibly could
but the waves
c r a s h e d
against him
and suddenly
he could fight
no longer
