Chapter 1

Voices

Everyone has been afraid of the dark right? At least once? If not, its a cold empty place where things appear at the blink of a wide glimmering eye. If you can't sleep it's your worst nightmare, as you see faces and hear sounds that send a shiver down your spine you worry to even move. Taking a thought of what may be under the bed, behind the door or around the dark corner. Hearing creaks maybe a giggle when you are home alone its worrying even if its just next door.

Well that is the situation a young girl was in right now. A small 14 year old, shivering curled up in a blanket not making a sound. Monsters are gigantic creatures with no mercy, well what we all believe. Shadows and darkness curling around her room as she lay there questioning one thing. What did they do to us that makes us so scared? Why do we shiver thinking of giant dog like creatures with long noses and pointed teeth walking on hind legs? Why are we so worried of pale people with black eyes and shark like teeth? It's not because its not human because we seem to be fine with other creatures, so she pondered on what they did to us.

She heard doors creak and howling dogs as the crisp wind whipped by trying to sleep was hard sometimes, and the thoughts of school just makes everyone's stomachs churn. She couldn't hear her mother or her sisters Past and Lena it sounded as if she was alone. This girl was called Bubble and she had long brown hair and big green eyes that were now watching her drawers suspiciously. She licked her pale dry lips noticing a shadow of something that wasn't there ever before. She tightened her grip on the blanket when it moved as a car went by.

Taking a few minutes she built up the confidence to speak in a croaky whisper "H-hello." Honestly not expecting anything to happen she stared at the shadow closed her eyes and tried to go sleep. After a few seconds there was a scuffle and a swipe on the wall as a deep voice let out a soothing growl. "Hello..." A squeak slipped out of Bubble's lips as she held her breath in shock.

No one would have waited for a reply to come. All of you reading saying 'I'm glad that wasn't me!' You are right in thinking so, because this isn't a game and it wouldn't be fun....

She knew something was there and the doorknob started to twist and let in a ray of the passage light. "Sweetie get to sleep its late some of us are trying to rest." It was her mum and she turned on her lamp shutting the door "bed." She sighed nodding her room now safe from the dark as she closed her eyes once more, thinking it was just her mind she dozed off to the humming and tapping of keyboards outside her room.

Waking up to a loud beep, burnt breakfast and screaming sisters she sat up staring at the bookcase. Moving her legs she flung them to the ground standing up and getting ready eyes still half shut. She ran out the door with messy hair and a bag draped on her shoulder, skipping food may feel bad but it always got you to school on time. She ran to school pushing open the gate looking at her Hogwarts of a school sighing. She walked towards it another boring day of lessons and staring, drawing and chatting in class ahead of her.

She looked crazy tired and rubbed her eyes as she found her way to her first class, dusting off her tacky black and green uniform she caught up with her little group. They were known as Geeks and Freaks, The mad outcasts and The no-go's. Not much attention was drawn to them at all, as she scuffed her shoes on the floor and throwing down her bag. It was art, the fun messy lesson with a teacher that lets you talk whenever you want. Bliss.

After being seated she smiled looking over at her friend Glade who was talking to someone else "What's going on here then?" Gade's eyes widened as she turned to her then relaxing seeing it was someone she could trust. "Hey Candy! We are talking about the newbie. She's nice by the sounds of it but she has been a bit snappy and we didn't want her to join....t h e m ." Everyone called Bubble Candy because it was pretty much her while diet. By them she meant the popular group; well what they T H I N K of themselves as the popular group they are really just rude kids with no logical sense.

Bubble looked around the classroom eagerly to see the new girl in the school spotting out a girl who she defiantly knew, just not from this school.

She had deep brown eyes that gazed back at hers as they twinkled against the sun from the open window. Her hair fell sweetly and curled under to just touch her chin line, high cheek bones and rosy red cheeks with apple dark lips. Bubble gawped at her mouth wide and hanging as the girl looked back and giggled. Bubble suddenly took into account she was looking at her jaw dropped and turned herself back to her work wide eyed.

"I know her!" She whispered sharply.

"Who?" Then noticing what they had been discussing before Glade corrected herself. "How?"

"I used to be her best friend on her then she ditched me for this other guy that she fancied and I completely forgot about her!" She said bluntly still doing her work.

"Oh. I thought you liked Jo-" Bubble cut her off in mid sentence.

"One best friend one crush. Difference. Also both ignorant." She glared up at Glade shaking her head, Glade looked back perplexed but still shakes her head back at her.

After a long day of crush shaming, class doodling, giggling and running Bubble made her way home trudging through the winter snow. She wish that sun had lasted longer now it was 4pm and looked like nighttime yet she made her way home shaking off and getting into her PJs. "Mum I'm hoooooommmeeeee" she said extending her words with a moan as she curled up in her bed with a book.

Her mum gave her a freshly cooked early dinner of soup and bread and all Bubble could think about was sleep and if her hot/cold ex-crush would think she had the right to call her by her nickname. She seemed to think only her friends could give her pet names and shorten things down.

Getting sent to her warm dark room again Bubble jumped into bed curling up just like the night before. The shadow from the night before had moved onto the wall, Bubble stared at it for a while. "I can see you..." She waited for a reply this time but nothing came until a few minutes later. "Then you are very clever to notice a detail so small. Candy."

She squinted at the wall. She was talking to a shadow. "How do you know my name?"

"I watch children sleep and scare them at night I learn things on the way. Being a monster takes time you have to know names." It seemed more calm than before.

"Huh....You don't seem all that bad to me." After a short pause she sat up. "Nice to meet you I guess but it would be nice to see you." After 20 minutes or so she laid back down thinking that they had gone. Just as she was about to shut her eyes when a tall-ish figure stood in the corner looking down at the floor. "I wanted to talk to you..." Bubbl-...Fine I will call her Candy too. Candy jumped up standing on her bed back flat against the wall. "About what why me? What did I do? Isn't there anyone else-"

"Ssh! That's too many questions." The figure slid down the hard wall and sat on the cold floor. "You seem nice and I think you would understand me I guess..."

"So you turned into some shadow boy that I can't even see properly to talk about each others issues?" He nodded and she sighed sitting back down on the bed a little less worried. "What about?" She looked at the boy and he looked up and she stared at his face it was well...normal. He looked like a average boy just completely black and grey all over. "You need to help me. And I can't go back home alone."

Not much of a interesting start right? Oh well it will get a bit crazy in the next chapter so be warned I'm sorry it's a bit tacky and short I will try and improve on the next one....If anyone even reads it! o~o
