"I'll be right back, I need to go for a smoke. Go talk to your fuckboy while I'm at it" I told Maria. She shot me a look with a grin then walked off to search for Tyler. After she left I made my way to the club's smoking area.
The smoking area was an outdoor room with no roof, exposing the beautiful starry night sky. It also had elegant looking outdoor furniture; three tables with chairs and a chimney. The best part of all was that the smoking room was completely empty. Everything seemed perfect in the moment.
I took out my box of cigarettes from my leather jacket's pocket and chose a cigarette. Then grabbed my lighter and lit the cigarette. After I took my first puff, I sat down in one of the chairs.
I heard someone enter the smoking area.
"Jennifer?" Said a female voice. I turned my head around to see who it was.
It was Adela.
"Adela. Wow. What a coincidence seeing you here." I said. She walked up to me and sat at the table I was sitting at. I was happy to finally see her again but at the same time frustrated about why she didn't call, text or show up at the bar I worked at to meet up. I still masked my frustration with a smile, looking glad to see her.
What she was wearing was very simple; just ripped jeans and a black baggy hoodie.
"You smoke." I heard disappointment in her voice.
"So? You do too" I responded. It was a bit odd that she cared.
"For how long?" She asked. She sounded a bit concerned but I can tell she was trying to disguise it.
"Ever since I was about fourteen to fifteen years old. Why?" I told her.
She paused for a bit, looking at the ground.
"Nothing. It's just... I never imagined you'd ever pick up a bad habit like smoking." She told me.
"We both went through drastic changes in ourselves since that incident back in high school." I explained.
"Yeah... we did." She then took out a pack of cigarettes from her pocket and picked out a cigarette. She took out her lighter and tried to light it up but failed. She tried a few more times but the spark of her lighter wasn't strong enough.
"Here" I said as reached my hand out to her with my lighter in it. She took my lighter and used it to light up her cigarette. Once the cigar was lit up she inhaled it deeply. It looked as if she was inhaling all her harmful thoughts then as she exhaled, all her thoughts left her mind as they disassembled into a cloud of unhealthy smoke. She then paused her smoking.
"I'm sorry I didn't call or text you or even show up at the bar you worked at. My phone broke and I forgot what bar you worked at. I feel like an asshat" she explained. I felt like she was lying, but I decided to believe it anyway.
"Don't worry Adela. It's fine." I said in a forgiving tone.
"You where always so forgiving. That part of you hasn't changed" she said. She opened her mouth to say something else but at that very moment, Maria walked into the smoking area.
"Wow Jen thanks for completely ditching me. Who's this?" Maria had her hands on her waist and looked pissed. I take it she couldn't find Tyler to waste her time with him. Or maybe he ending up ditching her.
"This is Adela." I told her. Maria's jaw dropped open and her eyes widened. Adela all of a sudden looked defensive.
"No fucking way"
