Lexi chills out and seems normal till lunch time. I don't have any classes with Pete on Fridays so I couldn't ask him how Tyler was acting. Lexi and I get our lunch and make our way to our table. Riley and Darryl are the only ones there already. We eat in silence till Pete sits next to me and starts to make idle chatter. Our table is never this quiet unless some people are fighting, usually Ty and Lexi. Who am I kidding, it's always them.
"Where's Ty?" I ask Pete.
"Over there," he says, pointing to a table. Our eyes follow his hand and land on Sandra's table, where she is seated with 3 other girls. They are looking at Ty so intently, hanging onto his every word. Lexi kicks me under the table and I speak to her in twi because I didn't want anyone to know what I had to say.
"Nya Abotwere," I say to her, meaning be patient.
Riley makes an awkward coughing sound which makes me realize I am the only one still staring at Sandra's table. We continue to eat in silence till Ty appeares at our table - with Sandra. The audacity.
"Hey guys," he says, sitting down after offering Sandra a seat next to Riley. Riley's eyes are as wide as saucers, Darryl is staring at Sandra's bust not so subtly, Pete is looking at Ty as if he grew a second head. Lexi. Well Lexi is gripping my thigh hard under the table and has the freaking best fake smile I've ever seen. Tyler is obviously high on something. It's like a silent rule at GreenView High, juniors do not sit with seniors at lunch. Never ever. It was a taboo in GreenView.
Riley spoke first. "Ty you know she can't sit here."
"I know, I know. I just wanted to introduce you guys to my new pal . Sandra, these are my people. Pete, Tess, Darryl, Riley and Lexi," he said gesturing at us around the table. He said Lexi's name as if it tasted bad in his mouth .
"Well nice to meet you, but you have to go, now," Riley said pulling Sandra up from her seat. Riley was handling things well today. That's loyalty man.
"Oh, yeah sorry for intruding. Nice to meet you guys. I'll see you Ty," Sandra says before walking back to her table. Then we get to work.
"Are you insane Ty?" Pete starts.
"How dare you bring her here?" Riley continues.
"Dude, you've got a hot babe, why you tryna act stupid?" Darryl adds.
"Tyler, you know juniors can't sit with seniors, why the hell did you offer her a seat?" I finish.
"Y'all need to take a chill pill. " Tyler replied stealing a fry from Pete's plate. I squeeze Lexi's hand reassuringly under the table.
"Never. Ever. Bring. A. Junior. Here. No. Matter. How. Hot. "Riley said, emphasizing each word.
"Also, if you and Lexi are over can I finally hit on her? "Darryl asked seriously. I felt Lexi's hand tense in mine when Darryl mentioned she and Ty being over. Once upon a time Darryl had a crush on Lexi, unfortunately by the time he decided to speak up Lexi had already told Tyler about her feelings for him. So Tyler made Darryl back down because apparently in "bro" world whether Ty liked Lexi back or not, once she had confessed her feelings for him, she was his.
"Fine, fine" Tyler said to Riley ignoring Darryl's question. Lunch went by quietly without Lexi and Ty speaking to each other.
"Tess you better be sure about this plan because I feel like I've lost him already.
