I had a lot of random inpiration to write this chapter, for whatever reason. I appologize if it sees a bit confusing, I wasn't quite sure how to word some of it. -Stella.
Holly waited for the perfect chance, the shift in the guards as they made their rounds. Once the path below her was clear, she hopped out of her tree and dashed forward and through the slowly closing steel door. The door was almost completely impossible to get through without the proper key cards, but she had Foaly so it was no problem at all.
She scanned the halls, keeping her back to the wall as she stalked silently along, looking for room Y6528. Foaly claimed it would be her best chance at getting into the arena, and she trusted him. She found the room after about twenty minutes of walking and used her fake key card to slip inside, unnoticed by any person or camera. Once inside, she slides a pair of glasses over her eyes and looks around the pitch black room. The glasses give everything a green hue, allowing her to see in the dark.
There was a steel table in the corner of the room, on top sat a hologram computer and keyboard, both of which were powered down. She quickly made her way to them, booting it up and sliding her glasses up onto her forehead so she isn't blinded as the picture is projected in front of her. She quickly hacked her way into the system; Foaly walking her through the entire thing.
Her thing was weapons and fighting, not technology.
Once into the system, she found the folder she was looking through and started looking through this year's tributes.
Two names caught her eyes. District 3: Artemis Fowl and Minerva Paradizo.
"Foaly, you seeing this?" Holly whispered. Foaly scoffed.
"Of course I am. Artemis Fowl lost his leg in the Games, but won nonetheless. So this must be Artemis Fowl the Second. He actually volunteered for his younger brother, Beckett Fowl." Foaly informed her. Holly sighed
"Poor kid. You think he might help?" She wondered.
"Who knows? We'll have to wait and see until he gets to the Capital. Actually, they should be arriving in the next fifteen minutes. You'll need to find a safe hiding place soon."
Holly scowled. "Why can't I just get into the arena right now? I could figure it out, possibly sabotage some of the Game Master's plans!" Holly could practically hear Foaly rolling his eyes.
"The arena is being tested, so you can't. They'll have cameras everywhere, and who knows, you could end up being killed before the Games even start!"
"Your lack of faith offends me, Foaly. But you're right, it's too risky. I'll just camp up on top of the roof until it's safe to get into the arena, alright?" Foaly sighs.
"Alright, but be careful."
Holly did as she told Foaly, watching the city below as the sun set. It reminded her of a saying she once read in a very old book. New York, the city that never sleeps. And she wonders what New York is. She leaned against the railing and sighed, resting her chin on her arms as she watched the people so far below. She started to doze off when she suddenly heard the door to the roof clang open and a voice swear quietly.
Jumping awake, she dashed to the far end of the roof and ducked behind a small concrete wall that holds all of the electrical and air conditioning/heating to the entire place. She peaked her head around, watching a boy in a suit walk slowly to the edge, looking over the edge. He pulled a small object out of his pocket and scowls.
"Good luck charm, yeah right." He sighed, before tossing the small cube. It bounces off the force field and back at him, and he catches it easily, as if he knew it would happen, and puts it back in his pocket.
Artemis Fowl the Second. She recognized him. She quickly turned back on her ear piece. "Foaly!" She hissed. "It's Fowl!"
"What? Really? Wow, didn't expect to see anyone up here." Foaly yawned. "Don't let him see you, he might spoil everything.
"You're so helpful!" Holly scowled, a bit too loud. Artemis whipped around, looking in her direction.
"Is there someone there?" He called out, eyes shifting, untrusting. Holly quickly ducked down so he couldn't see her and held her breath. After a moment, Artemis began to slowly walk towards her. Swearing under her breath, she waited for a moment -for Artemis to get closer- and leaped up, running straight for him.
He seemed shocked and takes a step back, eyes widening. She ran faster and he doesn't even get a chance to brace himself before she tackles him. She put her hands on his shoulders and used his body to lift herself slightly, just enough so that she can jump over him and towards the door, shoving him to the ground in the process.
She was through the door and gone before he could even feel the sting of the pavement-like roof pressing painfully into the palms of his hands. He carefully picked himself up, wincing as he did so. He walked back to his room, going to his bathroom so he can clean up his slightly bleeding hands.
His mind wandered to her. She had short, auburn hair and pointed ears. An elf. And she was talking to someone, so she couldn't be an Avox.
Who was this mysterious person, and what was she doing on the roof of the tribute building?
