Annabeth P.O.V.

Two days later and Maddie still wouldn't crack. After dropping off her brother, we went on a slightly awkward drive, to an extremely awkward hangout that didn't last very long. Maddie obviously had something going on. She didn't even show up for school yesterday.

So, of course, as soon as Maddie stepped into the hallway, I was voted to be the one to talk to her.

Unbelievable.

As I walked towards Maddie, I sent one last glare at my group of friends, sending them a silent message of you will pay for this.

I turned back towards Maddie, straightened my shoulders, and walked over to her letting my pride show.

"Hey, Maddie." I said, coming up and leaning my back onto the lockers beside her.

She looked at me and sent me a small smile, "Hey. Looks like you're the lucky one that got volunteered to come break the ice, huh?"

"You guessed it. If you don't want to talk about it, that's fine with me. I was the one voting to just leave it be until you brought it up, but nooo. They just had to know what was going on. But, I'm not allowed to go back until I get the info, so why don't we pass the time with another subject 'cause I can tell you don't plan on telling me anything. " I said.

"Thanks." She smiled at me in gratitude.

"So what are you doing after school today?" I asked, raising my eyebrow.

"Actually, I was gonna invite you and Perce to the skate park. I was gonna meet some old friends there from middle school." She said smiling.

"Hm." I scrunched my eyebrows, "I don't think that I've ever been to the skate park."

"Well then I would be happy to have introduced you to the amazing world of skating. " She smiled, "talk to Percy for me, would you? I have to put the girl's room to use. "

I nodded, laughing slightly, "Sure thing. "

I turned back towards the group, who were hiding behind a door. I walked past them, their gaze following me, "Yes, I see you, no, I didn't get any info. "

They all groaned, stepping out into the open.

"Seriously?" Percy groaned again when I nodded, "We sent you in there for a reason, considering you are the smartest one here. "

"I respected her privacy, Percy. I am not gonna pry so that you can look into her life like its a science project. I used logic in the situation. If you sit there and pound her with questions, trust me, she will never tell you what you want to know. But, if you let her decide when to tell you on her own time the only thing you have to hurdle is time. " I explained to the group.

"And how are you so sure?" Percy gave me a quizzical look.

"Percy, I spent my life reading people. This isn't any different. Maddie obviously stays strong on holding things in, especially when it comes to secrets. Don't expect her to just open up right away. She has walls that she puts up and won't take down. She won't tell you what happened unless you seem uninterested. I want to know just as bad as you do, but I know how she works. You wanna know so bad? Go ask her yourself. "

Percy raised his hands in a I-surrender-gesture.

"On another note, " I smirked, "Maddie invited you and I to the skatepark this evening. Meet up with some old friends of hers from middle school. You in?"

Percy's mouth curved into a smile, "Do skateboards have wheels?"

LINEBREAK

" Where are these friends at?" I sent a pointed look at Maddie as we swung our legs into one of the bowls at the park.

"They'll be here. Sometimes they can be la-found 'em." I followed her gaze to see two girls on skateboards heading our way in the bowl.

The first one flipped out and landed next to us, flipping the board into her hands. She had dirty blonde hair hanging around her face and icy blue eyes. She was tall, too. About the same height as Maddie.

I was expecting a cool entrance from the other girl too.

Too bad she slipped.

The other girl flew through the air, right before bulldozing the first girl and sending them both sprawling. Us three sat there for a second, recovering from the surprise, before scrambling to help them up.

"What was that for, Nia?" the first one said to the second, uh, I mean Nia.

"Sorry, Emory! You know my boards been messed up ever since my dad decided to experiment his 'fountain of youth' medical pill. My board has been acting up ever since. " Nia looked like she was in deep thought, as if remembering fond moments of her dad and her in the ER.

Emory sighed and muttered something about doctors.

Now that Nia was no longer a blur in the sky, I got a good look at her. She had blonde hair, brown eyes, and was considerably short based on the fact that she was the same age as us. She was well over a head shorter than Maddie.

They both looked towards us after finishing a small argument.

Maddie introduced us and told us the story (mostly me. Percy had met them before) of how they had met at the skatepark when they were ten, then ended up going to the same middle school.

Looks like I made new friends.
