Chapter 8
A/N: Hey guys! I'm SO sorry I haven't been updating lately! I've been so caught up with school and what not (Plus the dreaded writers' block *shivers*)! But anyways, I only have this week and next week before my Christmas break so YAY! I'm gonna try and write more! And my keys have been REALLY sticky since I spilled pop on my keyboard a LONG time ago \: Hopefully I can get that fixed. ANYWAYS, Sorry it's short but it's something! Love you guys! ENJOY.
Joey’s POV
“Welcome to Chicago O’Hare International! We hope you have enjoyed your flight and we can’t wait to see you again!” I stood up and stretched quickly before grabbing my back and nudging Brian to get him to move faster.
“Come on Brian! Let’s go!” I said probably a bit too excited.
“Calm down Joey, calm down. We just got here,” Brian replied drowsily. We somehow made it off the plane and out with our bags from baggage claim. We hailed a cab and I gave the driver Lauren’s address.
“What am I supposed to do while we are here again?” Brian asked quietly. I forgot he wouldn’t be able to stay at Lauren’s if I did.
“We’ll get a hotel room nearby. I’m sure Lauren isn’t going to just run back into my arms.” Bri nodded silently and looked out the window. We all too soon arrived at the familiar apartment building that held Lauren’s. I paid the cab driver and hopped out as fast as possible.
“Joey, are you sure you don’t want to get a hotel room first?” Brian asked quietly from behind me. I froze and turned around.
“Um, why don’t you go get us a room and I’ll go talk to Lo? I know there is a place around the corner,” I told him. He nodded, grabbed both our bags, and headed off to get a room. I watched him go for a second before taking a deep breath and heading up to face the music.
Lauren’s POV
My eyes fluttered slightly as I heard a noise far off in the distance. I felt Clark move from underneath me and watched as he walked over to the front door. Looking at the clock I noticed it was only 10 am. I sat up quietly and anxiously as he reached for the handle.
“Lauren I’m so sor… oh, hey Clark.” I heard his voice soar into the room like velvet. I cowered back so I was just out of his eye sight. I noticed Clark’s fist tighten slightly. “What are you doing here?”
“Watching out for my best friend. What are you doing here?” Clark’s voice was harsh. Extremely harsh. I shuddered slightly at his tone.
“Trying to get my best friend back. Is she here?” I could tell Joey was getting annoyed. Clark would prevent him from coming in all day if he could. I stood up, straightened myself up, and walked over to Clark.
“It’s fine Clark. I’m fine.” I looked up at Clark who only nodded and walked off towards the kitchen. Once he was out of sight, I looked up at Joey. His face showed an array of emotions from overjoyed, to relieved, to nervous, to sad. He opened his mouth to say something but I cut him off by raising my hand. “Not now. Come back a little later, say noon. We’ll talk then.”
Joey looked down at me solemnly but nodded. He slowly began walking away but not without glancing back briefly and flashing me a small smile. I closed the door quietly and turned around only to be face to face with Clark. A sad smile still rested on my face and a concerned look was engraved on his. Silently, Clark walked over and wrapped his arms around me. I stood there in Clark’s arms for what felt like forever. No tears, no sobbing, just thinking. Finally he let go and looked at me.
“I’m gonna go for now okay? Call me when you need me again.” I nodded and watched as he walked out the door. Once it was closed, I walked back to my room determined to make myself look amazing so Joey would see what he had given up on. If he wanted me back, he was going to have to work for it.
