9:50
My balancing feet wobble with every shaky breath I take. I try my best not to fall into the toilet water that I am hovering above but I feel as if I might fall at any moment.
Footsteps are audible outside of the bathroom and I shudder. A hot tear streaks down my face. The footsteps are closer now and the door creaks open. My heart starts raceing and sweat beads on my forehead.
Step. Step. Step.
The footsteps stop right outside of my stall. I bite my lips and hold my breath. It seems like an eternity before anything happens but when I does I jump.
"Autumn?"
"Oh my God, Corey."
I jump off of the toilet seat and kick the door open. There Corey stands in his tall stature. Dry tears line his face as he spreads his arms open to me. I jump into his embrace, feeling safe in a school for of peril.
Tears stream down my face as does his.
BANG! BANG!
Two gunshots ring from upstairs. Screams follow. And no screams of terror, but screams of agony.
"Let's go," Corey says.
We run out of the girls bathroom silently.
I regret that decision immediately.
