Chapter One

I don't remember much from my early kit-hood. I mostly only remember what came after opening my ears and eyes. But I'll tell you what I remember.

I remember the warmth of my siblings, and the scent of my mothers milk, and the softness of her fur. I remember feeling the cold body of Cherry, but not thinking much of it as I was barely a day old. The tears that mother let drop onto our fur when she noticed the dead kit by her side was the only thing clearly imprinted from my kit-hood.

My three other siblings and I grew fast, we opened our ears and eyes quickly, which opened us up for playing and having fun. Besides mother there was always her sister there too and a tom cat. Mother always told us stories of a tribe far from us with cat clans surrounding it. Of the dangers and heartaches from loss and gifts. Mother said her name was Moon, and her sisters was Sun. We never learned the toms name, he was never around much anyway. He brought mom food and clean bedding but never stayed to tell us any stories.

Honestly the stories were what kept us in the little den. Sun stayed around a lot, watching us whenever mom decided she needed to sleep.

After our six moons we stopped suckling and was transferred to meat. I think the tom had a hard time feeding for all six of us not including himself. When Storm, Shard, and myself showed interest in hunting he gladly took us in to learn. It was hard but we were all quick learners. Dawn never had a interest in hunting and preferred to play with the plants. Whenever we got hurt she always knew what to do with the plants though which was good.

When we finally got good at hunting the tom switched us to self-defense. He said "Its just in case something happens to your mom or any of us adults. You guys need to be able to protect Dawn, she'll be able to keep you guys alive as long as its nothing too serious." Those were his words. We lived up to that every day of our lives, protecting Dawn and making sure everything was okay. We were the perfect brothers, never teased her or handled her too roughly when playing, we didn't want her hurt since we didn't know how to take care of her if something went wrong.

That didn't stay the same. The moment we all became adults Shard left us, he didn't want to be apart of our tiny clan and wanted to explore the world. Storm had wandered too close to tribe territory and found a she-cat that he quickly became fascinated with and joined the tribe. It was just Dawn and me left. Of course mom, Moon, and the tom were still here, but they gave us our space. Didn't care what happened as long as food was on the table and we were all safe.

This is were my story begins now. The story of how I met a she-cat a pretty one at that, and you'll be here to read it.
