The Rain

It pours down the side of the window,
Wishing to be seen

But the class carries on, giving the rain no satisfaction in its quest

BOOM! A thunder clap so loud it shook the sky, startling all the students.

Except one.
She remains calm while seated at the back of the class, but turns to look out the window

She smiles, perplexing the rain.
No ones ever payed me any attention, the rain thought

As school let out for the day, the girl steps outside the doors and turns her face to the sky

The stream of students separate around her, for she stands still

Instead of going to one of the many cars that pick up the other children, the girl walks in a different direction

She walks to a clear spot in the field, the rain pouring even harder, and sits down.

Her pale blue-grey dress flows around her
She's a pebble in a lake of grass.

"I like you." She says to the rain
"Me? How can you POSSIBLY like me?" It thunders back.

"You make the Earth clean again." The girl said, matter-of-fact. "I'd like to visit you more, but I always wait for you." She sighed.

The rain pondered for a moment, the reached out his hand. "Join me, child, and be forever with me."

But the girl said nothing, just screamed, for the hand the rain had extended to her had shocked her to the core.

Quiet.
The drizzle of rain cut through the never ending quiet.

A girl in a pale blue-grey hospital gown lay quietly on the bed.
Eyes still closed.

A lady walks in, checks her over, and leaves.
Quiet.

She opens her eyes.
The rain's drizzles turn to showers.

The girl mumbles something.
A thunder clap rumbles in the distance.

The girl tries to move.
A humongous thunder clap booms through the hospital, stopping the woman who left in her tracks.

She runs back to the girl's room, to an immense surprise.
"She's awake!" The woman exclaims.

And it's quiet no more.
