Meghan's POV
---
"Drink?" He says taking a bottle of coke out of the fridge.
"Sure, thanks" I say
He pulls out two bottles and walks toward the balcony. I follow him and stare in awe at the view.
The sun dances on the horizon and the sky is light pink.
"Here" he says passing me a coke and a deck chair.
I sit and open the coke.
"Cheers" he says
"Cheers" I say smiling
We tap a drinks and take a sip.
"So, what's Australia like?"
"Well, where I'm from the weather is pretty unpredictable." I say
"Yeah? Here it's mostly this" he says pointing the view
I nod
The view reminds me of Eli, everything does these days.
-FLASHBACK-
"Eli! I have to go, We've got school tomorrow! My mum will be wondering where I am soon!" I say, he never seems to understand
"Stay for like, 5 more minutes, just...come on." He says
"Ugh, fine" I say
"Quick then, follow me" he says taking off
I follow him though his house and we end up in what I think is a spare room.
"C'mon" he says opening a window
"What are we doing?" I ask, nervously
"Nothin, just follow" he says rushing trough the window.
I sigh and follow him.
I stand as I get out of the window and onto the roof, the sun hits the back of my neck. I turn and see the sun, resting on the mountains.
"Woah" I say walking over to where Eli is sitting
"Meghan Sit" he offers patting the space next to him
I go over and sit down, leaning my head on his shoulder.
"Meghan?" He says
"Meghan?"
"Meghan?"
-END OF FLASHBACK-
"Huh? What?" I say
"You alright?" Liam says
"Uh, yeah" I say sipping on my Coke.
"You spaced out for ages" he says
"Yeah, just...this reminds me of..." I don't finish the sentence
"Eli?" Liam asks
"Yeah" I say head down
"So, I'm gonna assume you two aren't dating" he says
I nod
"You like him don't you?" He asks
I ignore his question
He sighs
I sigh
"Are you single" I blurt out
"Um, yeah?" He says
I don't reply
"Sorry, that was odd" I apologise
"Don't be" he says
"Why don't you talk to me? About Eli perhaps?" He asks
So I tell him everything
I tell him that we fight
I tell him that we get in trouble
I tell him that I hate him
I tell him that I love him
---
Silence finds its way into our conversation. Until I realise that I'm by myself. Liam must've gone inside.
The suns at it's lowest now, the sky is a beautiful purple.
I slide open the door and step inside.
The smell of food enters my nostrils and I follow it to the kitchen.
'Is that bacon?' I ask
'Uh yeah?' Liam says, at the stove.
'Oh my god, I love bacon!' I say walking over to the pan. The bacon sizzled away in oil.
'Yeah, you mentioned before' Liam says smiling.
'Huh, did I?' I ask him
'Yep, I'm very observant' he says
'Indeed' I say grinning at him
'Sit down I'll bring you food when it's ready.
I sit on a stool and pull my phone out of my pocket.

I swipe through some of them seeing a bunch of different tweets and posts about how cold it is in Melbourne. I respond to a few but stay quiet otherwise.
"Here ya go" Liam says 'Pretty basic but it'll do, right?' He says passing me a plate of toast, eggs and bacon.
'I don't mind, looks good!' I say
Liam pulls up a stool next to me.
'So' is say between chews 'tell me a little about yourself' I ask
'Ugh, there's not much say' Liam says
'C'mon, what about your parents that's somewhere to start.' I propose
'Well, my dad's constantly working and when he's not he's at some sporting event' he explains
'And your mum?' I ask and notice his smile fade
'She...she left when I was 10.' He says looking down.
I put my arm around Liam and comfort him.
'Hey, it's okay, I'm sure she had her reasons' I say
'Yeah well, if she did she didn't say any of em.' He explains running a hand through his hair.
We sit in silence again.
'Um, I'm sorry for making the mood sour' he says out of nowhere
'Don't be, I understand' I say
'You probably wanna get some sleep so, I'll leave you to it.' He says getting up
'I'll be in my room' he says placing his plate in the sink and walking up the stairs.
I sigh and finish my dinner.
---
Instead of sleeping, I head back out to the balcony. I take up a seat and stare up into the sky. There aren't many stars but the moon is very bright.
"Couldn't sleep?" Liam asks opening the door
"Nah" I say
He pulls up a chair next to me and looks out.
"Y'know, there was one time when the moon was super bright and it was really low, just on the top of those houses there." He explains
"Would've been something to see"
"Yeah sure was" he says
"Oh yeah, forgot to mention, my sisters gonna be coming round tomorrow" he says
"That's cool" I say smiling
"Yeah, she heard about you guys and made plans to drive down tomorrow morning" he explains
"Where does she live?"
"Bout an hour north of here"
"Cool"
"Who's older?" I ask
"She is, by 30 seconds" he admits
"Aw, tough break, so your twins then?"
"Yep"
"Always wanted a twin" I say
"It has its benefits and its negatives, obviously"
"Like what?"
"Like when we throw a party, we both try and be the 'alpha dog' if you know what I mean, and then we just get into a huge argument about our age and whatever" he explains
"Ah, I see"
Silence finds our conversation again, but this time Liam doesn't leave. I look up at him as he stares out into the open. I rest my head on his shoulder as I feel my eyelids get heavier. As they close, I think Liam puts his arm around me, but who knows, it was probably my imagination.
