The light from her laptop illuminated her face in the midst of dark. It was as if her head was detached from her body, floating still in the air. She looked down on the right side of her screen and sighed. It was 12:01am. The house was dead quiet. No sounds besides the quick tapping of her fingers against the keyboard. She looked at the screen in front of her and realised that the letter she was typing was going to decide what the rest of her life would be. It was the counterweight between getting into Princeton or working at her dad's 'Art and Craft' shop, which Ava thought would be when hell freezes over. Princeton has been her ultimate goal since her mother's death and ever since then; it has been the anchor that held her from sinking.
Ava heavily leaned her head back closing her eyes, wondering whether to send the letter now or to wait until she felt it was right. The headmistress of Constance Billard (the school she was currently attending) suggested that the sooner Ava sends the letter the better chance she has of impressing Princeton. The headmistress has always said, 'time is precious' but then again, she was never really the one to give advice. She lived in an apartment in Brooklyn with her 6 cats that she constantly chatters about during assembly and it made Ava wondered what digits were poorly laying on her payslip.
The school she was attending had costs her dad every dollar he made. The school stood in the middle of Manhattan and was where all the filthy rich send their children. Ava has always felt like a third party. She could never fit in. It was difficult to attend to a school where all your classmates were driven in limos, while you're sitting in a bus with an old lady's butt backing into your face. However Constance gave her the boost she needed just to have half the chance all her classmate had to get into an Ivy League school. Ava has always been at a disadvantage but she never complained. It was understood by her that whatever her father gave her was all he could afford.
She sat in deep sighs as she heard the knocking of the door. She took a glance once again at the little digits on the right bottom corner of her laptop. It was 12:20am. Ava scooped the blanket off her body and headed towards the door. She placed one of her hand over the door knob and peeked through the peephole. There stood Lucian looming from the dark.
BIG PLOT TWIST AT THE END OF THE NEXT CHAPTER! STAY TUNED X
