Stalkers. The ones that secretly follows you everywhere, the ones that oversees your every move. The ones that becomes more and more obsessed with you as they seep deeper into your life. Sometimes, they believe you're theirs and that they know anything and everything there is about you.
Some just stick as the dark shadows that despises being seen by the light. Some others just do it because of the burning passion of loving a person who might be a level higher for them. But these kind of stalkers aren't the ones to be feared off. It's the ones that would do the extreme just to prove a point that's to be feared of.
The week started normal for her, nothing was out of the ordinary. The days passed by with ease, a bit too much compared to the weeks before. But she didn't put in much though it in, seeing that this week might be the week of luck. The only thing that made her question was the strong bitter taste of her morning macchiato.
Being a regular customer at the coffee place at the corner of the block she lived, she was sure the barista knew that she wasn't really into the extra shot of espresso they gave on the house. So it did become a question whether he forgot or he had mixed up the orders. It wasn't a big deal but she was just making sure she didn't have to stay up late into the night due to the addition of caffeine intake.
Heading to work, the morning breeze greeted her and she smiled, loving the smell of blooming flowers. One of the attraction of living in the area and she loved it the moment she stepped into the neighbourhood. The walk to work was usually a bit dreadful, because she would be bothered daily by her so called "lover".
Anticipating him to come out of nowhere and just spit out cringe-worthy pickup lines. But even after she had passed 3 blocks, he was still nowhere in sight. Accidentally eavesdropping as she heard his name being said, her eyes expanded in fear. Her pupils dilated.
Running towards her work place, she busted into the entrance, shocking everyone inside. Trying to catch her breath, she steadies herself as she supported herself by leaning into the wall. She drank her warm coffee in one go, trying to see if that could wake her up from this dream. But to her despair, she's wide awake and what she heard was true.
"What happened? You look like you've seen the grim reaper." One of her colleagues asked as he helped her get to the pantry.
Being a bit uncomfortable with the way he had his hand on her waist, she pushed him away slightly, trying to walk by herself. Only to fall into his embrace.
"Slow down, your knees are trembling and you want to walk on your own? Just let me help." He shook his head and gave her a smile.
As much as she hated being this close to a guy, she couldn't push him away. He is trying to help her after all, and her legs gave up on letting her stand by herself. Arriving at the pantry and sitting on a bench, she still couldn't forget what she heard.
The guy was dead. She wouldn't care much because for her, she knew death will come for everyone, just when and were are the questions that remains unanswered. But hearing how the died exactly the way she wished as she wrote in her thrown out piece of journal is what frightened her.
Snapping his fingers, her colleague made her brush off her thoughts. Explaining she was just chased by a dog, he questioningly left her after making her a hot mug of chocolate beverage. As the silence in the pantry got to her, she began rethinking about is death. It was just a coincidence, that was all what she said to herself.
No one could have read it, it as torn out, crumpled, in the trash. And she didn't even take out the trash out yesterday. Taking in deep breaths, she tried to compose herself but as soon as the adrenaline slowed down, she was shocked by the sound of the door creaking open.
"Hey, everyone's going out for an early lunch. Boss got a baby girl and he surprisingly won the lottery. So he's treating everyone today. Wanna come with?", said the male colleague that helped her beforehand.
"You go ahead with them. Just text me the place and I'll get there after I'm really, really, really okay." She gave him a weak smile. Returning the smile, she heard his footsteps walking away as he closed the door.
Taking the drink he had prepared for her, she took a sip and sighed in relieve. But as her lips returned to the brim of the mug, the tip of her tongue burnt at the heat of the drink because she heard the sound of things falling. The noise really didn't give her heart a break as it thumped as fast as it did when she heard about the death.
Trying her best to collect the last ounce of strength in her, she slowly walked to the door. Wanting to lock it as precaution, if the intruder who knocked down the stuff down was armed. Touching the doorknob, she was about to lock it, but her hands froze. The muscles of her body tightened, as if she was in a paralysis. Hearing her name being spoken by a voice so alien to her.
Before she could lock the door, the knob turned and she instinctively took a few steps back. The door opened and revealed a tall, skinny guy. His face expression showed he was pissed off and his eyes filled with rage. She became scared as soon as their eyes met.
"Who are you? How did you know my name?" She asked him in terror as she saw the gun in his hand.
Shocked by her reaction, he clumsily placed away his gun. Seeing how she was walking backwards and hitting the wall as her eyes met his, the rage he had faded away. The anger turned to anxiety.
"I'm just helping you out." He clutched his hands together. Feeling how sweating his hands were getting, he rubbed them against his jeans and played with his fingers.
"In what way where you helping? What do you mean help? You're terrifying me." She said as she held her stomach in anxiety. Thinking if this were to be the end of her life. No wonder the week was so nice to her. It's a sign for her parting.
"You didn't like him teasing you every time you pass the street to get to work. And you wrote down how badly you hated him. How you wanted him to choke on his words. So that's what I did. I thought that you might..." His sentence uncompleted as the words she spoke where just muttered under his anxious breath.
"And oh my god, is that blood on your face?!" She asked and she fell into a bigger pit of terror.
He quickly rubbed of the blood that was on his cheek. Slowly walking to her, he tried to gain his confidence to talk. Meanwhile, she felt herself nearly faint due to the rapid beating of her heart.
"Please don't kill me." She managed to speak in between breaths. His eyes widen hearing that statement. The anxious feeling he felt turned into happiness.
"Why would I do that? I like you. Oh wait, I love you. There's no way I'm going to kill you beautiful." He said with confidence that popped out of nowhere, unlike how he was a few seconds ago.
"I just want it to be us. I know everything there is need to know about you. I know how you always try to not get an extra shot of espresso. How you want the guy bothering you to choke on his own words. How you hated being close to others because you're insecure about your body. I know everything. And I know that you like me too!" He ended by giving her a gummy smile.
"You're sick. You interrupted my personal life. You're a crazy stalker. Just how in the world would you think I like you back? And in no way will I like you back now that I know you've been stalking me. Go away. Get away from me." She said even though it pained her to talk with her rapid heartbeat.
The excitement in his eyes died and he looked at her with an expression that wouldn't be interpreted.
"You're mine. I know you, I changed myself to be just like how you pictured the perfect guy would be. I made sure to make you happy by pushing those bad people out of your life. But you still couldn't consider me as your prince charming?!" He placed his hand on her jaw.
"You're a crazy stalker. I'll never like you. The only thing you'll ever be is the most hated person in my life." She said as she felt dizzy. And the next moment, she fainted.
"Hey wake up. You can't die. I waited a long time to talk to you. Wake up. You can't die after all I did for you. Your prince charming Yifan has cleared everything for our happy ending." He said as he touched her pale face.
