I woke sometime later and my eyes met the sight of unfamiliar surroundings, I was no longer in the fields. I was laying on a bed in a fancy, over the top looking bedroom.
I panicked a bit, how did I get here?
Have I been kidnaped?
Am I at a camp?
A million thoughts raced through my mind but they silenced themselves when the bedroom door opened. I looked up to see who was there, that's when my eyes met those of the boys.
The boy from the field.
"Oh your awake." He said looking surprised. "I thought you'd be out longer, that frequency was pretty strong."
Frequency? But I was in the middle of nowhere, how did they know where I was?
"W-who are you?" I stumble out in a weak voice, just now noticing the sharp pain of a headache.
He looked at me and smiled. "I'm Caspian, but call me Cas." He said in a seemingly sweet tone. "And your Aries right?"
I looked at him with confusion in my eyes. "Yes.. how do you know my name?" I asked with fear breaking its way through my voice.
"It's on your bag." He laughed under his breath. "Don't worry okay? Your safe here, I won't hurt you."
"B-but how do I know that you won't send me back to the camp?"
"Because, Aries I'm like you."

"Prove it." I said In the most demanding tone I could muster.
He smiles and looks at a lamp across the room, I watch as his eyes turn blue and the lamp lifts off of the table.
"Your a moonlighter." I say with a hint of jealousy in my voice.
"Yeah," He says. "Is that a problem?"
I look away
"No.."
"Whats Wrong then?" He said sounding confused.
"I'm a sunlighter."
He sighed. "Oh so that's why the frequency hit you so hard, but it's okay I'm not gonna kill you.. I would never do that."
"But I'm lethal."
"Well technically you are, in the eyes of dema. But here with me, you are not lethal your valuable and important.. you matter Aries don't forget that."
I was confused where was this coming from? I've never even met him properly until now.

"How am I supposed to trust you? I've only just met you." I look into his eyes, the blue fading away now he looks back at me then walks closer. I move back hesitantly, ever since all of this happened I haven't really spent a lot of time around people.

The first wave of frequencies went out, buzzing around the city, hitting the children who were born with the light and marking the children who were not. Aries was 5 at the time, he was laying on his bed playing with his stuffed animals when he heard the dreadful high pitched noise, he curled up into a ball and cried. He grew scared and angry and when the frequency had ended his eyes were bright orange, confused, he stood up and looked around wondering what on earth had happened. He walked into the bathroom and looked at himself in the mirror, when he saw his bright orange eyes looking back at him he was scared as any child would be but then young Aries thought that maybe he was a superhero. The next day in kindergarten he went around telling all his friends that he had superpowers, his eyes were no longer orange but he still felt special.

The second frequency wave went out when Aries was 11 years of age, he was in the kitchen eating a bowl of cereal when the high pitched noise hit him once again. But this time it was stronger, so strong that he fell from his chair and cried on the floor, he grew angry from the sound after it had lurked around him for far too long so he stood up and stomped on the floor. It cracked beneath him, he looked down at his foot in disbelief but surely, the floor had cracked.

Aries was 15 when the third wave hit, this time he was in school. His eyes grew bright orange and his hands grew scorching hot. His classmates didn't seem to notice however, they seemed to be in a sort of trance as Aries would have said. His hands were in tight fists as he waited out the frequency, when it was over he looked around the classroom. All the other students had bright blue eyes and seemed to be.. peaceful, unlike him.
That's when Aries realized he was different.

When the fourth and final wave hit Aries was 17 and on the run, the news had finally shed some light on what was going on and Aries had found out that the sunlighters, the ones with orange eyes like his, would be tracked down by the military to be executed.
He packed his bag and fled the house without saying so much as a goodbye to his parents, he was out of state by the next day, somewhere close to Chicago.

I blinked and snapped out of it, not even realizing I had zoned out until I noticed Caspian waving his hand in front of my face. "Earth to Aries." He said with a faint laugh.

"Sorry." I mumbled "zoned out.."
"Don't worry about it, so uh.. are you hungry?" He asked. I replied with a nod, he smiles and leads me out to the kitchen where he searches through the dimly lit fridge. "So uh, I have bread, 3 eggs, a can of whipped cream, and some mustard."
I laugh as he says that "what are we supposed to make with that?" A creamy egg mustard sandwich?" I ask sarcastically. He laughs.
"Nah how about eggs and toast?" He suggests. I agree and he walks over to the stove to start cooking the eggs. I sit and watch him in silence until he mutters a curse word under his breath "something wrong?" I ask.
"The propane ran out." He said, sounding frustrated.
"Oh great, what are we supposed to do now?" I ask while scratching my neck.
"Well uh.." he trails off, seeming to be looking for the right words to say "your a sunlighter, can't you heat it up?" I look at him in confusion not knowing what he meant. "W-what do you mean?" I ask.

He rubs his forehead then looks up at me "Your a sunlighter so you can create fire, but I assume you didn't know that."

"I mean.. I know that I have powers, but I didn't know that I can cause a fire."
Caspian explains everything to me, but I tell him I'm scared of using my powers. Eventually my hunger gets the best of me and I agree to try and heat up the frying pan. I walk over to the stove and position my hands over it just as Caspian tells me to. "Okay, focus on what you want to do and then it should come naturally." He says.
I nod and focus my full attention on the frying pan and envision it heating up, my hands start to feel warm and just like that the egg starts to cook.

"Hey you did it, good job!" Caspian says with a little bit too much enthusiasm. "There's still plenty of sunlight left so that's why it worked so well." He explained.
"Uh thanks I guess." I shrug and sit down, feeling weird but good at the same time. Then all I can think about is the news reports of others like me being executed, if I get caught by dema they'll kill me too.
