Sugawara Koushi wasn't the type to join a gang, definitely.

He hated violence. He hated cruelty. He was a soft (and sensitive), caring, and kind person.

He wasn't like those typical rebels who hated rules and such, he pretty much accepted it. Well, as a proof, he worked in a freaking daycare, taking care of toddlers.

Long story short, he would never cause any harm to anything, literally.

So why did he even join a gang? A famous one, at that, too. It doesn't make sense, so what's the reason?

Let's talk about the past.

Koushi was born, raised, and grew up in the slums, where the poor did their best to survive with anything. His parents did their best to find money, but even so, his life has never been easy.

Then one day, he met Kenma. A timid, shy, and quiet boy, with dark brow hair and captivating golden eyes. Koushi almost felt sorry for him.

Kenma, turned out, wasn't as innocent as he looked like. His father was a drug addict, his mother was sick, and Kenma had to take care of himself. Every night, he went to the other part of the town, to sneak into some houses and stole some goods.

Not a good thing do, but he had no other choices.

One day, Kenma was busted. A boy named Kuroo saw him trying to escape, and stopped him. Somehow, the two became friends, and Kuroo, being the rich kid he is, did his best to help Kenma financially. Their personality were so contrast, but that's also how they became best friends.

Everything turning into a mess when they were 12.

Kuroo had to move away with his family, and although it was temporary, Kenma panicked. Kenma had many problems, anxiety and panic attacks, and only Kuroo could help him. Kenma was scared.

Koushi remembered it more than anything. Kuroo's promise, what he said the night before he left.

"Hey, Kitten, it will be alright. I will come back, and when I do, we'll catch up with everything we missed. You'll make a mess and I'll drag you out. We will do whatever we want. I promise, so just wait for me, okay?"

And Kenma did wait. Even when that cold winter night was the worst he had ever gone through. That night, his mother died. That night, his father killed himself. That night, Kenma had to burn down his home, for he wouldn't be able to afford any proper burial for the both of them. That night, after Kuroo left, Kenma began his life alone.

Three years later, when he was 15, Kenma created the Golden Cats. With his fellow rebel friends, Keiji and Hajime, they started the gang. Mostly for fun, but also to gather money to help the homeless to survive, and to change the public's view as well. To tell the world how they suffered, how hard were their lives, how unfair the world is. Their works became viral and soon their names were known. More people joined, and they recruited some, too.

Anyways, Kenma survived, physically, but not mentally. A part of him died 2 years later, when Kuroo returned. Five years after his departure, another five winters.

But Kuroo didn't even bat an eye as he walked past the slums. Kenma was broken, but what made him lost his trust was the words he heard from Kuroo, as he talked to his new friend.

"As if, Bro. There's no way I would want to live in that kind of place. It's just-... How can I put it? Dark, dirty, disgusting. I can live normally in a good apartment, so I'll do just that. The answer's so obvious, why do you even ask, Bro?"

Kenma snapped, and, from the stories, Keiji and Hajime almost couldn't stop him from running to strangle Kuroo.

Since that incident, Koushi joined the gang as well, just to keep an eye on Kenma. He knows how hard it was for Kenma to trust someone, and how broken he was when he heard those words from his best-friend, the only people he truly trust at that time.

Koushi was sure bad things were going to happen, soon. And he wanted to try to stop it.

He wanted to protect the Kitten, because after all, he didn't deserve anything he had gone through.

Kenma, with his cat, Pudding, arrived at Station-A about half an hour early. He immediately spotted Koushi, who had started sketching some crows on the wall, along with Kei, who were standing on a trash can tasking care of the security camera above them. Then there's also Hajime, sitting on the ground in front of his laptop.

"Night, everyone," Kenma greeted, putting down his cat. Pudding meowed slightly, before he ran off once again.

"Hello, Kenma-san," Kei replied, while the other two simply removed the honorifics.

"Just the three of you?"

"No, Ryu and Lev arrived fifteen minutes ago. They're currently setting up our escape. Keiji was here an hour ago, but now he's picking up Yuu and Shoyou," Hajime explained, "Kenma, would you mind if I set up hidden cameras as well? To see their reactions? I really want to make fun of them."

"Go ahead. What about adding the audio as well?"

"That would be great," Kei commented, smirking, "We can record it all, would be really cool in YouTube."

"You guys are sadists," Koushi commented, "Kiyoko said her parents were home now, so she won't be able to join us."

"Alright." Kenma set his bag down and put on the Golden Cat's uniform: a black jacket with a golden and brown cat's tail printed at the back, the kanji of 'The Golden Cats' in golden threads above it. There's a pair of cat ears on the hood, golden and brown ears, so contrast with the fabric. The zipper were golden and the jacket had their gang's symbol printed on the top left. On the right side, there's a number printed in bright red, which was different for each members, as it was in an order, of when did they join the gang.

Kenma wore number 1, Keiji's 2 and Hajime's 3. Kei and Kiyoko were 4 and 5, Koushi was 6, 7 and 8 were Ryu and Yuu. Lev was 9 and lastly, Shoyou was 10.

Kenma grabbed a marker, and began to copy his previous sketch onto the wall. It was a really risky piece of art, seeing how he taunted their hunters with it, but Kenma couldn't care less.

He wouldn't mind if he got caught. His life was already a waste, so as long as he was happy, it was enough. He was satisfied already with everything he had done so far.

He did his best to spread his ideals. He helped lots of people, he killed many drug dealers in secret, he had protected his underlings, his family, and he wouldn't have it any other way. He would keep doing the dirty works, all the assassination and manipulation, while the others would only have to know about those colorful graffitis.

Well, to be honest, he had one regret.

Kenma wished he could have stopped Kuroo from leaving in that cold winter night.
