Return to Hogwarts

I threw open the door labeled “Natalie Haley &  Aly Russel”.  I nearly jumped on my long lost friend. She shrieked and hugged me.

“Look at your hair! I love it!” I said when I got a good look at her platinum blonde minus the blue. She’d let it grow out and it really worked for her.

“Thanks! I love it too!” She smiled and pushed her trunk under her bed. “I can’t believe Luce would want to room with Kay!” She complained.

“I bet she got tired of me!” We laughed together and began unpacking our things. I put all my new clothes in my closet, careful not to wrinkle my uniforms.

When I finished I looked at Aly’s side of the room. She struggled to close the doors to her closet. I just laughed and pushed her out of the way.

“Thanks.” She said as I organized her clothes. I thought while I did that. I wondered what Kay and Lucinda were doing down the hall. I wondered if they would have a good year together or if they’d ever roomed before.

“Aly?” I asked. She looked at me. “Is this the first year Lucinda’s had a roommate?”

“Besides you?” I shook my head yes. “Yes… Kay and I always shared a room. Lucinda was assigned to room with Pansy Parkinson one year, but she convinced Snape that if he’d like her to continue her outstanding work, he’d better move Pansy elsewhere.”

I nodded, my thoughts turning towards classes. I knew I would have to take potions again and I was not looking forward to it. I still wasn’t spectacular at it and that meant I’d most likely need a tutor, which was still a sore subject for me.

And I was also aware of the fact that Draco and I are both Slytherin’s. That meant I would be seeing a lot of him, in class and out. Whether I was ready for it or not, I’d have to face him within the next few days.

“I still can’t believe Snape actually put us in a room together, Nat. He doesn’t even like me, but you’re a little suck up so that must be why.” She teased. I turned around and hit her with the shirt I was holding.

“I’m not a suck up!” I said, continuing to hit her. She held up her hands in surrender.

“Okay! Okay, you’re not a suck up… but Lucinda is.” She smirked and I dropped my hand, hanging the shirt on a hanger and setting it on the rack with the others.

“I won’t argue that one.” I said. “Did you get your schedule yet? Mine never came in the mail.” It was true; I’d never gotten my schedule like every other year. Back home we got our schedules the week before school in the mail.

Aly looked at me skeptically. “We’ll get them at breakfast tomorrow.” She answered. I’d never had to wait until the morning of the first day to get my schedule for the year. “You know you’ll probably have a lesson with him, right?” She added carefully.

            I nodded. “I know.”

            “What will you do?”

“I have no idea, Aly. I don’t even know if I can look at him.” I sighed, shutting her closet doors gently. I looked at the clock next to my bed. It was time for dinner and I was starving.
