"Tara, that....is not how you catch fish-"
"Shhhhhh I'm in the zone."
"But Tara-"
"ShhHHHhhhHHHHhhHhhHHHHHHH!!"
Kevin sighed. He'd been trying to explain to Tara how to properly catch fish, but this girl could not be reasoned with.
I swear to god this woman is the spawn of god damn satan. Kevin thought as he moved further upstream, away from Tara and her splashing.
Tom followed Kevin and Ros stayed back with Tara to try and reason with her.
Kevin glanced back. At least that girl Ros is more reasonable. Kinda cute too. He gave a half smile before turning back to Tom and explaining what he was doing.
"Alright. See those fish in the shallows? We'll go for them." Kevin began. "Crouch down low, make sure you don't cast a shadow on the water. It'll spook them." Tom nodded and copied his movements.
Kevin finished explaining, and they both attempted to catch fish. After lots of trial and error, Kevin ended up catching two small bluegills, and Tom caught a small rock bass. Tara and Ros started doing the same thing downstream, and Tara almost caught a baby bluegill. Ros just sat and waited, staring at the water.
"Ros? See anything?" Tara leaned over.
"Shush!" Ros snipped with a whisper.
"Geeze." Tara whispered and watched.
Suddenly, Ros thrusted the spear in to the water like lightning. She pulled up her spear, a huge rock bass on the end.
"Woah! Guys, Ros got a big one!!" Tara yelled upstream to the others. They came running over, carrying their catches.
"Hey great catch!" Tom smiled. "Your a natural."
"Mmmmmmm yesssssssssssss. Very talented indeeeeed." Kevin said grinning.
Suddenly there was a boom. They all stopped and glanced around, frightened.
"CONGRATULATIONS ROSEL. YOU HAVE DISCOVERED YOUR SURVIVAL TALENT."
"Oh, hey o voice in the sky. Long time no see." Tara grinned. "So.....survival talent? What's that?"
"SURVIVAL TALENTS ARE ABILITIES YOU DISCOVER THAT HELP YOU AS TIME PASSES AND YOU NEED TO USE MORE SKILLS. EACH OF YOUR'S IS DIFFERENT. ROSEL'S IS HUNTING AND TRAPPING ANIMALS."
"Sweet." Ros commented evenly.
"NOW, RETURN TO YOUR SURVIVING."
The voice disappeared, just like the first time. After a brief discussion and oo's and aa's about Ros's skill, they decided to make a decent meal. Tom and Kevin left to collect more apples, while Tara and Ros stayed behind with the delightful task of gutting fish.
"Ros, your chopping their heads off wrong!"
"Shut up I'm the one with the animal killing skills!"
"That only applies to catching an animal, not skinning it you donkus!"
"You freaking egg, I know what I'm doing!"
"Why am I letting you use my knife in the first place?"
The bickering went on for ten minutes, and twenty minutes after the men returned. They just sat and watched the two yell whilst ferociously skinning and gutting fish. After twenty minutes longer than it needed to be, the fish were all skinned and ready to be cooked.
Ros and Tara cleaned off their hands in the river. Kevin began to cook the fish. But Tom, unlike his usual social self, stood back with a nagging uneasiness eating at the back of his mind.
"You alright Tom?" Kevin noticed the tall man's reluctance.
"...Yeah. Just have a weird feeling." He scratched the back of his head.
"Uh......g-guys?"
The men turned and saw Tara and Ros standing eerily still on the river bank. All the earlier spite and humor was completely gone from their expressions.
"Are you to okay?" Tom stepped forward.
"Don't move!" Tara hissed in a whisper. Slowly, she angled her head like she was pointing at something.
Their gazes traveled to where she was pointing until they saw it.
A huge brown bear, standing on the other side of the small river, watching them.
