PS. If you don't remember what happened so far/are confused at the beginning, I would suggest rereading at least the end of Part 1

Teddy and I both returned to our potatoes. When we finished chopping, Teddy filled up the pot with water and carried it, with great difficulty due to its weight, over to the stove. While he did, I looked at the list. Taking the ends off green beans was next on our agenda for the day.
It was funny. Being in here, locked away back in the kitchen, it was easy to forget that it was Christmas Eve. It made me sad, really. I glanced over at Teddy. He was covering the pot and turning on the stove. Then, in my periphery, I saw something. Feeling inspired, I walked over and turned the radio on. After a moment of fuzz, a jolly Christmas tune popped up. After I few seconds I recognized it as “Sleigh Ride.”
Teddy turned around and grinned.
“You know how I made that list of things I like?” He said.
“Yeah.”
“I forgot to put Christmas carols on the list.”
I giggled. “Same here.”
We moved onto the green beans, and then cut squash, as our potatoes cooked. We mashed milk and butter into the potatoes once they were done. As we began peeling carrots and parsnips for chicken soup, a sudden piercing shriek caused us to drop our peelers.
“What was that?” I jumped.
“I don’t know. I think it came from the dining hall.”
We ran out the doors, only to find two people doubled over with laughter.
“Ah,” Teddy said, stopping short and crossing his arms. “The two decorators have arrived.”
“I forgot about them,” I remarked.
The girl, still laughing hysterically, sat down on a pile of streamers. The boy took a few calming breaths and then bent down and kissed the top of the girl’s head. The girl pulled the boy down onto the ground and kissed the boy on the lips, grinning and giggling as she did.
I felt very much as though I was interrupting something very personal. I looked to Teddy for guidance, but as I did, the couple broke apart and spotted us.
“Oh, gosh, I’m so sorry!” The girl stood up and walked briskly over us, the boy following closely behind her. “I’m Natalie, and this is Ian. We’re the decorators.”
“I’m Lily,” I said.
“And I’m Teddy,” he added.
“Sorry about the shrieking.” Ian commented. “When we tried to hang up the streamers Natalie almost fell off the ladder. For some reason we found it hilarious.”
