"Isabella, we've got to get going if we don't want to get caught in traffic." My grandfather tells me from my bedroom door.
I groan and fling my blankets off of me.
It's been half a year since Satan attacked my mother and took her from me. I spent four months crying, and asking God why he let this happen. After about five months, I realized trying to talk to God was a waste of my time. I grew up deeply religious in the Catholic faith, and I do believe in God, but I know the only way to get revenge is to take the responsibility into my own hands.
After about a week of research on my laptop, I discovered True Cross Academy. I'll be attending this school in order to become an exorcist.
I throw on some leggings and a long navy blue button up with lacey sleeves. I put on my black boots and braid my hair to the side. I look in the mirror at myself, I guess I look decent. It doesn't really matter though, I'm not going to find a boyfriend, I'm not even going to find friends. I'm going to avenge my mother's untimely death.
I bring my bags to my grandfather's car and toss them in the trunk.
He has a sad look on his face as I approach the passenger side of the car.
"What is it, grandfather?" I ask with concern in my voice.
He gives me a sad smile. "I'm just going to miss you, but I know you're going to do well at this school. You've got the spirit of your mother in you."
This makes me smile and brings a tear to my eye. I run up to my grandfather and hug him tight. He hugs back.
"I love you so much." I tell him.
"I love you too, Isabella."
We both smile and get in the car and head to the school.
I stare at the window the entire way there, Grandfather doesn't talk much. He supports my decision to go to True Cross, but I do think he worries.
We arrive and are greeted by the chairman.
He shakes my grandfather's hand and then turns to shake mine.
"Hello there, welcome to True Cross Academy. I'm the chairman, Mephisto."
I shake his hand firmly and give him a smile. "It's nice to meet you, I'm Isabella."
Mephisto greets me warmly. "Well, it's nice to meet you, Isabella." He motions to a booth set up on the grass to our left. "Over there, you will find your dorm assignment, and you will be assigned a luggage cart and a teacher to escort you. If you need anything, feel free to stop by my office any time."
Grandfather thanks him and we head to the booth and stand in line.
"This is such a big school." Grandfather notices. "I hope you don't get lost." He winks.
I chuckle. "I'll be fine. I'm sure after a few days, I'll get used to it."
The line moves fast and we reach the front, we're greeted by a young man, looking to be around my age, in glasses. He smiles as we approach him.
"Hello, I'm Yukio Okumura. I teach the exorcist class here."
My eyes widen. He's a teacher? He's so young.
My grandfather puts an arm around me. "You'll have this one in class, then. You better watch out for her, she's a wild one." He teases me, causing me to blush.
Yukio laughs too. "Last name, please?"
"Espinoza." I inform him.
His eyes widen. "Espinoza?" He seems surprised. "Forgive me if I'm wrong, but was your mother Amelia Espinoza?"
"Yes...yes she was. Did you know her?" I question.
He shakes his head. "Not personally, I just know what happened to her, I'm very sorry for your loss."
I force a smile. "Thank you."
He rubs the back of his head uncomfortably and he pulls my file. "I'll escort you to your dorm. Follow me."
Grandfather and I walk behind him on the sidewalk and he leads us to a big, beautiful building. We take the elevator up to the top floor, I notice there aren't any other students in here. I found it odd but didn't say anything.
The elevator opens and he escorts me to my dorm.
He opens it and then hands me the key. "Welcome to your new home." He gives me a warm smile.
"Thank you." I tell him.
He exits and leaves Grandfather and I in the room to say our goodbyes.
Grandfather studies the room. "This is nice."
"Yeah, it is." I agree, tossing one of my bags onto the bed.
"Would you like me to help you unpack?" He asks me.
"No its okay." I tell him. "I'm probably just going to take it easy today anyway and unpack everything tomorrow."
He nods. I see the sadness in his eyes.
"Hey." I grab his hand. "I'm going to be okay. I'm going to call you all the time, I promise."
He smiles and wraps me in a tight hug, I embrace him back. "Don't you worry about me, Isabella. You're a brave girl, and I know you have amazing things ahead in your future."
This makes me tear up, but I hide it, not wanting to worry him any more.
"I love you."
He releases me from our hug. "I love you too. I can't wait for you to come back and visit."
I smile and he exits.
I sit on the bed and let myself cry.
I've been holding everything in from grandfather ever since my mom died.
I couldn't let him see me upset. I just couldn't let myself pain him anymore.
I honestly felt like I pained him enough as it is. I look just like my mother, I knew every time he looked at me I was a reminder of the daughter he'd lost.
I finally dry my eyes and pull myself together. I decide to get in the shower and settle down for the day.
Today is the first day of my mission. There's no way I'm going to let anyone, not even Satan, ruin my life.
