Its barely the middle of the High school year. My mom decided to drop us off to school although our walking feels faster than her driving. When we reach the school my brother quickly rush out of the car even though school starts in 45 minutes. As I'm saying goodbye to my mom she says, "Anak, please can you wipe all the window with da tissue and da Windex ober in the back." (Anak is a term used to call your children. My mom speaks broken english.)
"Nanay ano ka ba, I need to go to school." I reply. (Nanay means mom and ano ka ba can be like what or whateven its hard to explain)
"Hoy, do what I say or I do you want the slap on your pace? (Hoy means like hey it's usually used to get your attention and Filipinos usually get mixed up with their p & f's)
"Sige po." I reply loudly as I'm getting the Windex. (Sige means okay and po is just a sign of respect when talking to older people). I start wiping the Windows and start hearing footsteps coming from behind me. I turn around and this guy starts helping wipe down the Windows.
"Oh anak, is this your new priend?" She asks loudly with a huge smile.
"Oo po nanay." I lie.(Oo means yes)
"Ako si Bryson po." (My name is Bryson)
"Pinoy ka?" My mom asks.(You're Filipino?)
"Oo po. I just came here from the Philippines. I come from Palawan po." (Oo means yes. Po is a sign of respect.)
"Well welcome to America, the land of opportunity!" She screams.
"Sige nanay. I need to go, school is about to start." (Sige is okay and Nancy is mom)
"Paalam Anak." She yells as she drives away. I start walking to my locker while Bryson follows.
"Um I'm new to this school and I was wondering if maybe you can show me to my locker and classes? By the way what's your name?" He asks. Oh gosh was he hot. His brown silky hair flowing in the wind and his light brown eyes.
"Oh um my name is Ruth. Sure, I'll show you around. What grade are you in?" I Studder.
"I'm a freshman. Here's my schedule and my locker number." He smiles. Yes, we have the same exact schedule and he has the empty locker next to me!
"We have the same schedule and your locker is right here." I say as I try to not make eye contact.
