Chapter Thirteen: A Story

Parker's POV: After

"I know that a lot has happened since I left and a lot has changed but my feelings... no, no, that's so cheesy. Okay, here we go, I know that a lot has changed and that we've both grown up since last year but..." Ugh. Why can't I get this right? Maybe I should just explain everything to her when I get there and not plan it. I don't think I have ever felt this nervous about seeing Jessica, even when I first got back but now I know exactly how different it it. The one thing I am completely certain of is that I am still in love with her.

"Parker! You aren't the only one who needs the bathroom!" Daniel yelled from outside the door. I guess I was definitely going to wing this and with one last look in the mirror I opened the bathroom door and walked out.

"Parker?" Jessica surprisedly asked as soon as I walked into the sight of the living room.

"Jessica?" I sarcastically shot back, this was exactly how we used to act before and my nerves started to calm down just a little.

"What are you doing here?" She questioned, instead of answering I just looked down at Elliot who was squirming around in Jessica's arms. Daniel soon suggested that we head out back to see if his dad wanted some help. I agreed because later seemed like a much better option than to talk to Jessica now.

It was when I went to go grab something from the garage that I overheard Jess and Mrs. April talking in the kitchen. And from the sounds of it definitely had something to do with me.

"I don't think he believes me..." Jessica whispered.

"Hey!" I said enthusiastically when I walked into the kitchen. Jess and Mrs. April both turned around to look at me, Jessica looked a little sick but Mrs. April just smiled.

"Um, Jess, I was wondering if you wanted to head to the park with me. I thought that maybe we could catch up." I offered. I guess I has just sealed my fate as to when I was going to talk to Jessica.

"Sure, mom could you watch Eli while I'm gone?" She said, cautiously choosing her words. Her mom nodded and then smiled brightly in my direction.

I quickly ran outside so that I could let Daniel know that Jessica and I were going out to the park. He looked very suspicious when I had mentioned that Jessica and I were going alone, he suggested that he come with us. I didn't worry much about his suspicions though because I could care less what he thinks, I needed to talk to Jessica without him anywhere near.

"What is it that you wanted to catch up on?" Jessica asked me as soon as we started to walk down the street.

"Everything, to be honest. I feel like everything has changed since I've been gone and you haven't really told me anything." I admitted right away. I wanted to get straight to the point and not waste time beating around the bush.

"Well, I graduated high school, I started online college classes, I started working more shifts, and I had a baby. That pretty much sums up my year. How about you, what did you get up to?" Jessica listed off to me.

"You do have a tendency to be a smart ass, don't you?" I remarked. She immediately shoved my shoulder lightly causing me to burst into laughter.

"You have no right to use my own words against me!" Jessica told me sternly. That caused to laugh even harder because of the dead serious expression on her face.

"Seriously Jess, what actually happened when I was gone? I mean, at the airport we were promising to see each other soon and then I just stopped hearing from you. I even would ask Daniel if he had heard from you and he said that you barely talked to him too. I understand if you found someone else, I wanted you too because then if I hadn't come home.. but at least you could have told me." I stopped walking once we had reached the park entrance and just stared at Jessica to see if her face would give anything away.
