I can't do bold or italics anymore... help! Thoughts are in single quotations for now.

Bramblestar sighed. "Are you sure it's urgent? Leaf-bare is coming soon, and--"

Jayfeather cut him short. "You'll have Leafpool," he reminded his leader, "and Alderpaw, Cinderheart, Brightheart and Briarlight can help. The Clan will be fine."

Another sigh. "Fine, but you have to take a warrior or two with you. And," he said sharply as Jayfeather opened his mouth to speak, "you can't take Lionblaze."

"But--"

"He stays here." Bramblestar's voice was gentle.  "I know he's your brother, but he needs time to recover from losing his powers. Same goes for Dovewing. You're..." Bramblestar paused, trying to find the right words, "different, because you are a medicine cat and because StarClan sent you this message. Take Ivypool and Foxleap."

Jayfeather scraped his claws against the ground, irritated, but dipped his head and mumbled a "Thanks" before backing out of the den. He lifted his muzzle and scented the air, trying to locate Ivypool. 'There she is!'

Bounding down the rocks leading up to Highledge, the medicine cat called out to Ivypool, who was just grabbing a vole from the fresh-kill pile.

"Ivypool! Where's Foxleap? We need to talk."

A couple of cats turned their heads towards Jayfeather and Ivypool, curious. A ripple of confusion emanated from Ivypool.

"He's on patrol." she mewed, though there was a tremor of uncertainty in her meow. She sat down. "What did you want to talk about?"

"StarClan has sent me a message," the blind tom began. "I must journey to the mountains, and you two are to accompany me." He remembered his last journey to the mountains all too well. Half Moon's voice filled his head, making him feel dizzy. He stood up abruptly. "Well?"

"I'll tell Foxleap. When do we leave?" Ivypool bent her head to take a bite of her vole.

"As soon as he gets back." As Jayfeather was speaking, he heard a rustle of branches and a small commotion. The patrol had returned. "You can go tell Foxleap. I'm going to go prepare the herbs."

"Well, actually, there might be a problem with that..." Ivypool's voice trailed off as she glanced at the entrance.

"Why?" he mewed sharply. Not for the first time, he cursed his blindness. "What's wrong?"

Ivypool was silent. The scent of blood wafted to Jayfeather's nose. A wave of cold fear rolled through him.

"What is it? Ivypool! What's happened?"
