Derek sits by my side
I don't know why...but I'm suddenly scared
He starts to talk and I feel a vibration in my spinal cord
"So I met this girl that I really liked.
She was so pretty. Almost as pretty as you"
I blushed.
Every time I wanted to tell her I was either too nervous or something would just have to come up"
He paused for a moment trying to hold back his tears and at the same time starring into my green eyes.
"The school dance was coming up and I thought it would be a great opportunity to tell her and then ask her to the dance."
"But of course I blew it....."
"I had wasted so much time that I thought she would already have a date because she was so pretty." I reply in a very serious tone that almost made me sound husky but in a nice way
"What was her name?"
"Paige"
"The day after the dance word spread round school that she had drowned"
"Omg" I said with a serious look on my face
"She had planned to stay in her bath tub all night cause she wasn't going to the dance."
He stopped and looked up as if meaning for the tears to flow back into his eyes
"She didn't have a date. She had turned every guy down cause she wanted me to ask her"
"She fell asleep in her bath tub and had swallowed too much water"
"She didn't survive it"
"I feel like I'm responsible for her death"
"If I had asked her to the dance she won't have fallen asleep In that stupid bath tub!"
"I'm so sorry" I said with tears forming in my eyes.
"I promised myself never to waste time to pour out my feelings to any girl I love"
"I love you....... Lisa"
I was still scared of what I had seen a few minutes ago but I felt safe with him at the same time.
"I love you too" I said in a low tone
I don't know if it was because I felt shy saying it or I was still scared.
"How did you know she wanted you to ask her"
"Her best friend told me"
"She made me feel responsible for Paige's death"
Derek started to cry. He was no longer holding the tears back.
"It's not your fault" I said patting his back.
He looked into my eyes And asked out of nowhere
"Would you be my girlfriend?"
I didn't want to jump into a relationship just yet cause I had just moved but of course he didn't expect me to say no.
"Y...yes"
He hugged me and I felt so sorry for him that I began to cry
I slept at his house that night and I left early to my house to prepare for school
