*Asked for by owllover22161, this is a three part story (oh joy for me...) about another training exercise, this time created by technology not telepathic powers. Apprentice fights mentor, son fights father, what will happen to the team as they battle to protect their minds again?!
I've been on hiatus (as you all know) and this was asked for way back in the Halloween special (remember the quiz?) So this was way overdue.
EirinnOfMyth, your story will be coming soon, and so will yours, Daughterofdeathstroke!
Ok, enjoy! *
As soon as the words left his mouth, the teams faces went white.
"Again?! Remember what happened last time?!"
Of course he did. They all did. The last training exercise had gone disastrously, ending in mental scaring that lasted weeks.
The team had to go to therapy!
"This will not be the same as the last training exercise, rest assured that your safety is our number one priority." Batman monotoned.
This did little to calm them down. Even Robin looked terrified.
M'gann was worst off, though. She was shaking so much she looked like she was about to faint.
Connor wrapped his arms around her to soothe her, and also to keep her upright.
"This is not a telepathic exercise, team. This is a virtual reality experience that will simulate a scenario that will test your inner strength and push the limits of your powers. Safety."
"Yeah...sounds so safe..." Wally muttered. Artemis elbowed him. Hard.
"Shut it, Kid Mouth! M'gann's bad enough as it is!" She hissed.
"It'll be fine." Kaldur said suddenly, surprising his team mates. "If Batman is willing to try this type of training again so must we. If he deems it safe, it is."
Robin looked sceptical. He knew when Batman was sure about something. This was not one of those times. Although he couldn't see Bruce's face under his cowl, he had learned to read his emotions. Even from under his mask he could tell that his foster father was feeling doubtful that this would turn out as planned. Nothing ever did.
"This training is not mandatory, if you feel like you are unable to participate in the simulation, please speak now." Batman looked at each team member individually.
M'gann bashfully raised her hand. "I-I know that this is a computer generated simulation, but-"
"You're scared that your subconscious will still take control like last time." Batman finished for her.
She nodded solemnly. "I-I'm sorry..."
"Don't be, Miss M. If anything this proves that your aware of your limits and care about this team. Can't ask for more, right?" Robin joked, his face still looking sympathetic for his team mate.
"...Yeah..."
Connor also put his hand up. "If she's not going, then neither am I. I'm staying with her."
Batman glared, but said nothing. "Anyone else?"
Artemis put her hand up, much to Wally's surprise. "Artemis-? You too?!"
"Yeah, Kid Mouth! You didn't go into a coma last time, did you?! You weren't the first to die!"
"Yeah-! Well-"
Robin coughed. Both hero's looked up with wide eyes at his mentor, who, at this moment, had moved forward and was standing infront of them, an intense bat-glare directed right at them.
They shut up.
"So. Miss Martian, Superboy and Artemis are all out. Kaldur, Robin and Wally, you three will be going in alone."
They all nodded.
"The simulation will put you against the person you see as your greatest adversary. Be that your mentor, parents or villain. You will all remember that it is a simulation, for obvious reasons."
He walked towards the holographic screen that had been displaying graphs and intel.
Pulling up a keyboard, he typed in an access code, which then changed the screen to a complicated image of binary and coding.
Six tables had already been laid out, but only three would be used.
The select three all day down on a table, and batman continued to type.
A couple seconds later the zeta tubes announced a visiter.
Martian Manhunter walked into the room.
"Sorry I am late, but there was unexpected issues with the zeta beam technology at the watchtower, and I could not zeta here. I ended up helping the rest of the league fix the tubes instead of being here to help set up things. I apologise."
"It's fine. Did you find the problem?"
"No. There seemed to be no fault with our systems, but Captain Atom has suggested that solar waves are to blame for the malfunctions."
"Hm...maybe...But that seems improbable. Tell the League to scan the watch tower and search for any alien tech. We don't know if an enemy is to blame for the malfunctions, or if there is a bigger, unfound problem still."
"I believe it is already being done, but I shall contact the tower to tell them of your suspicions. Maybe after the exercise we should investigate the matter further?"
"Yes. For now, help me get the simulation online. We have much to do still."
"Absolutely. I believe the Earth term is "On it"."
"Indeed..." batman muttered.
Robin and Kid Flash exchanged looks.
This would be fun.

The second part will be out soon!
Wait for the next two stories I've promised people!
Ok, bye.
