Something Fun

The bouquet sat on the chest of draws in their bedroom in their hotel they had returned to in the early hours of the morning.  The wedding had inevitably ended with Ricky taking to the microphone and after a little bit of a rough start with the band that had been playing all night,  they eventually managed to bang out a version of Ruby that the wedding guests were more than happy with.

Laura had invited Helen and Daniel to come to stay with them in London as soon as they were back and settled from their honeymoon. They had accepted the offer and thanked Laura and Ricky for helping to make their day so special.

Laura looked at the flowers from the bed. Ricky hadn’t mentioned anything about them. She thought he was probably just trying to avoid an argument while they were on holiday. They were very beautiful flowers, but Laura had no intention of keeping them.  She had promised Helen that they would drop them back to her mother's before they went back to London so she could have them framed or whatever brides did with them.

Ricky followed Laura's gaze as he stepped from the bathroom, towel around his waist and another being rubbed on his hair. Again, he said nothing about them.

"Come on,  let's go.  I've got something fun planned for today." He sat down on the edge of the bed.

"Ohhh, can't I stay in bed for a bit longer?" she moaned, then put her hand up to rub the top of her arm. Looking down on it, Laura saw a purple bruise. "Look what she did to me!" Laura allowed her bottom lip to drop childishly.

Ricky rubbed it. "Arhh,  you poor thing." He placed a gentle kiss on her arm,  keeping his eyes on hers the whole time. But the sympathy was short lived. "Now come on!" Ricky patted the bed, "We want to make the most of today."

"Wouldn't you rather get back in bed?" Laura asked in her best seductive voice. Though he paused slightly to think about it,  he smiled and shook his head and began to get dressed.

Reluctantly Laura left the comfort of her bed and went for her shower.  Ricky told her to dress for comfort and activity. Laura observed him from frowning eyes. "Activity? We're meant to be on holiday!"  she protested.

"It will be fun, trust me." Ricky insisted. He sounded hurt by her lack of enthusiasm.

"Activities with the dull sense of a hangover can never be fun," Laura began,  but seeing the developing look of disappointment on Ricky's face she added, "But I'm sure today will be,"  she told him,  raising her eyebrows as soon as his back was turned.

"When am I actually going to get to know what we're doing?" Laura asked as they got into the car after a light breakfast.

"When we get there!" Ricky was getting frustrated with her. He started the engine and Pink Floyd blared out of the speakers. Turning it down and looking over his shoulder to reverse he said to Laura, "I've never known you be so impatient about a surprise!"

Laura shrugged. "It's scary,  you being in charge." She managed to wink at him before his eyes were on the road ahead and they headed towards their destination.

It was the sign at the end of the track that told Laura what Ricky had planned for the day. Winsley Trail Cycles. "Cycling?" Ricky couldn't quite work out whether Laura was pleased or not. But the fact that her question was followed by a yawn, he was perhaps regretting booking an activity he thought was fun for the day after the wedding.

"I'm sorry,  last night is just catching up with me," Laura apologised. "It'll be fun. I might not be able to walk for a few days,  but,  yes, it's a fun activity to do together."

Having pulled up in a parking space,  Ricky eyed her suspiciously,  feeling she was just saying what she thought he wanted to hear.

"Honestly Ricky,  it's very... thoughtful and romantic."  She leant forward and kissed him, before giving a cheeky grin and getting out of the car. Grabbing the keys from the ignition, he followed her out of the car.
