The brightest rays of the sun streamed through the windows of the otherwise gloomy building, almost illuminating the floorboards.

Scanning through the thin panel that separated the hospital aisle and the newborn nursery, the newly-wed couple pressed their faces and hands right onto the glass in desperation almost, trying to source their bundle of joy amongst many.

Pointing at the baby girl wrapped up cozily in a bright yellow blanket, the woman's face broke out in a big smile.

"There she is Denver, there's our precious little baby girl, " Thea whispered to her husband.

"Look she's smiling! She's smiling at us! Man, she's already a ray of sunshine isn't she?" Denver Cyan cooed at the baby's reaction, unable to resist emanating the same smile.

"What should we name her? "

The man simply smiled as he gazed lovingly back at his wife, placing a tender kiss on her forehead.

A whirlwind of sunshine flurry flew around in the summer breeze as the young girl paddled away on the dainty old bicycle down the cobbled streets.

Long, luscious locks of pure platinum white danced along with the wind, trailing behind the girl as she sped down the pathway, the white mansion visible from where she was now.

Her father cycled behind her, watching the young girl carefully in case she fell. He didn't have to worry though, as she proved more than capable of the simple action even at her tender age.

Leaning the bicycle neatly in the yard and reaching for the loaf of freshly baked bread in the wooden basket, she stepped towards the front doors, dusting off her feet.

" Go on in, kiddo." Denver Cyan said with a smile, nudging his daughter towards the door.

" Dawn! Is that you?" came a voice from inside the house.

Running into the kitchen, Dawn found her mother in the midst of preparing a hearty lunch of Mac n' cheese, her favourite. Squealing in complete utter delight, the four-year old gave her mother the biggest hug she could muster before she proceeded to prance around the marbled tiles, much to her mother's amusement.

And it was that very night, while the girl was tucked in her bed sound asleep, that a single strand of her hair transfigured into a bright golden yellow.

   -----

Streamers and balloons of all shapes and sizes hung loosely across the pale white walls as the comforting aroma of freshly baked cookies wafted in the air.

Up above the dining table was a colossal golden banner that read off the words
" Happy 5th Birthday Dawn "

Dawn rose early that morning, lifting her head off the feathersoft pillow to reveal her dishevelled platinum hair, now slightly streaked, on the left, with hues of the sun itself, bright dandelion and tangerine.

The morning sun complemented her hair perfectly, as the rays bounced of her hair and made her skin glow bright. At only the tender age of four - or soon to be five - the girl had a beautiful completion of tanned golden skin, her cheeks lightly dusted with freckles.
Her eyes, a lovely shade of hazel, shone with excitement.

With a broad smile that graced her features, Dawn jumped out of bed and ran down into the main hall where she found her parents ready with her birthday breakfast. Croissants baked with stringy mozzarella and bacon.

Oh did she feel giddy with joy over such simplicity.

The rest of day was filled with adventurous shopping trips and grand meals that made Dawn feel like her stomach would burst just about any time.

Not to mention the enormous decadent chocolate cake that was brought out as a finale back in the comfort of her home that evening, her parents belting out the ever so familiar birthday jingle.

Candles blown, cake eaten and wishes made, Dawn went to bed that night the happiest she had ever been, and she would find that this time, a section of her hair would once again, turn into a gorgeous shade of canary blonde.

-----

It wasn't until Dawn's 7th birthday had a new addition of the family arrived. A little chubby boy that much resembled a ball had been walked into the room carried tenderly in her mother's arms when she heard the door open.

For quite a while, Mr and Mrs Cyan had declared of the new baby addition to the family, and Dawn couldn't be more delighted to finally have a companion to accompany her through the much boring days.

The girl bounded and leaped into the room with a wide smile, eyeing the peanut looking child in Mrs Cyan's arms before her lips moved to finally speak.

"Is this it?" She asked, her bright yellow eyebrows raised in question.

"Him, Dawn. Not 'it'. This is your baby brother. His name is Blaze."

"Well hello there, Blaze. Welcome to the family."

While Dawn was much friendlier to the little baby boy in the early days of his appearance, she soon grew annoyed in regards to the additional family member. Her last straw broke when little baby Blaze had somehow crawled into her room in the middle of the night and reached for her beloved jewellery box, which had been left for her by her great grandmother, Sally, before Dawn had even been born. It was an antique from the world before theirs', and when Dawn had awoken to the smash of the polished wood, along with screws and necklaces strewn across the carpeted floor of her room, Dawn screamed in anger, disturbing the peace of the slow night.

"Blaze! My jewelery box!" She cried out, pure anger coursing through her veins as she knelt to the ground and picked up the bits and pieces in an attempt to fix what her brother had caused.

The little baby took no mind to the disaster, and instead gurgled slightly in laughter before smacking the ballerina figure that was set inside the jewelery box against the floor multiple times, giggling in delight.

He was too young to notice, but under the gaze of the unforgiving moonlight, Sections of Dawn's snow white hair began to shift and change in color, darkening into a wine red as she scrunched up her eyebrows in fury.

" Out! Get out of my room!" And with a screech, the toddler was set outside the closed doors of Dawn's room with the ballerina still in his hands.

A few moments later, she had, of course, opened the door again and carried baby Blaze into his room before returning into hers, sulking miserably over the lost treasured box.

That night was the first time in which Dawn's hair had the addition of red into her collection, amongst the bare platinum and bright yellows.
