Piper climbed out of her tent, with Anna close behind her. Pipers family-the Phonex's-were on vacation in the California Redwoods, and Piper had brought her best friend along with her. They had two hours until dinner time and they wanted to go on a walk in the deeper side of the woods.
"C'mon, Anna!" Piper exclaimed.
"I'm coming!" Anna responded eagerly.
They were both only 6 and excited for adventure. As they walked into the woods, Piper felt a sudden heat wave.
"Did you feel that?!" Piper asked.
"Feel what?" Asked Anna
"Nevermind..." Piper replied back, thinking she was just imagining things. As they got deeper into the woods, Anna suddenly shouted
"Look!!!" as she pointed to the biggest Redwood they had seen yet. It had thick branches running up the side, making it absolutely perfect for climbing. Before Piper could say anything, Anna was already half way up the tree. When she got to the top, she waved Piper up. Piper took a step forward, feeling the heat wave again, but this time a feeling of nervousness with it. She put her foot on the first branch, and slowly wrapped her hand around the branch above it. Exactly one second after Piper had touched the tree, the whole thing burst up into red-hot flames. Anna screamed in agony, and Piper shouted for help. She yelled and shouted but they were to far away for anyone at the campsite to hear. Anna's moaning and yelping died down to silence.
"A-Anna?" Piper shakily managed to get out of her mouth.
"Anna!" she screamed, so fiercely that several birds flew out of neighboring trees. She wanted her friend back. She needed her friend back. Piper let out one more hoarse and loud
"Help..." and then collapsed to the ground.
