Chapter 14

I wake up from my slumber due to the beeping noise from my phone. I switch the alarm off before getting out of bed. I have a quick shower and go through my normal morning routine before I sit down at the breakfast bar with a slice of toast on my plate.

I kept myself busy when I was getting ready, even though I had reminders of what is going on, I pushed it away and focused on what I was doing. Now all I am doing is eating and my mind finds it a perfect opportunity to throw everything at me. I feel put off from my food.

Thankfully my sister walks into the kitchen; I stand up and chuck the half eaten piece of toast in the bin. I pour myself a glass of orange juice before sitting back down on the seat.

“You okay?” My dear sister asks.

“Yeah.” I whisper.

“How was the concert?”

“It was overwhelming.” I say truthfully.

“Who’s was it?”

“One Direction.”

“Alex. You’re bullshitting me.” She says in disbelief.

“No, honestly. My boyfriend took me to see my secret boyfriend and his friends perform.”

“How did it go?”

“Emotional rollercoaster.”

“What happened?”

“I was really happy about it. It was great. I loved it, I had loads of fun. Until Harry said that he had to go and then the waterworks began. Niall, the sweetheart, comforted me. But you know.” I shrug.

“Yeah. Why don’t you stay off for the day?” She suggests.

“That would be great, but I would have so much free time to think.”

“You’re right. Help me put these clothes on the washing line.” She says as she unlocks the door that leads into the back garden.

I follow her to the back and help her hang the clothes. She hangs a t-shirt then suddenly stops looking at the ground.

“What’s this?”

I look down at the area she is looking at.

“Looks like a cigarette butt.” I state the obvious.

“Yours, I’m assuming.”

“Yes.” I say truthfully.

She carries on hanging the clothes, “I don’t want you to go to school.”

“I don’t want to stay at home.”

“You only turn to these when you can’t handle something.” She says pointing at the butts on the concrete floor.

“Well maybe I can’t?”

“Talk to me. Tell me what’s happened? I’ve got a day off today.” She says.

“I can’t, I have to go to school.”

“I’ll call in, saying you’re sick. We can go out. I’ll pay?”

“Fine.” I give in.

I don’t want to be alone with my thoughts.

“Okay. I’ll call the school; you go change into some normal clothes so we can go.”
