Getting the Picture--adding media files!

Recently, one of the ambassadors who help run this profile was asked by a Wattpad user to explain how to insert a picture file into their story. We thought it was probably a good idea to go back to the basics and explain how these multimedia functions work.

INSERTING PICTURES, GIFs, and VIDEOS

Inserting pictures (and gifs) in the header or body of your story is a slightly different process. Header files must be hosted files, while body files can be uploaded directly from your computer. So if you're new to multimedia, you're probably thinking, what's a hosted file? Good question. It's a file that has been uploaded to reside on the web as a link that you can use and share your picture.

Both sites provide a list of picture links you can use to share your photo with others. You want the DIRECT LINK that is listed. Just copy the direct link and paste it into the picture/gif section in the header then click add. 

NOTE: PNG files won't load to the header. Only Jpeg and GIF files will load in the picture section of the header. If you have a PNG file you want to use, save it as a jpeg, then upload it to the server of your choice before adding it to Wattpad.

Inserting Body Pictures:

To insert a picture (jpeg or gif), click on the picture icon, find your file stored on your computer, then click choose. The file will add to the body of your chapter, so long as it's smaller than 3MB. If it's too big, you'll get a notification letting you know the file is too large.

NOTE: (As seen in the green circled area, this file was smaller than 3MB.)

Inserting YouTube Videos

When in Youtube, click on the share arrow and the link to share the video will populate. Copy the Youtube video link, then in Wattpad, click the video icon in either the header or body of your chapter and paste the link into the box. The video will then add to your chapter.
