WHAT IS A COMIC?
Comics are sequential art forms that use images, often combined with text, to tell a story. The images are arranged in panels, which are read in a specific order, typically left to right and top to bottom, and can vary in length, from single strips (like those found in newspapers) to multiple-page issues or series (such as superhero comic books). Comics are traditionally published in periodicals, magazines, or anthologies and are often serialized, with stories spanning multiple issues, and are frequently associated with ongoing series featuring recurring characters.
WHAT IS A GRAPHIC NOVEL?
And what about graphic novels? Picture a book-length fiction or nonfiction work using the same sequential art form as comics. The term "graphic novel" refers to the format, not the genre, as graphic novels can cover many genres, are longer than comic books, and are published as complete works, often with complex narratives and developed characters. This can include fiction, non-fiction, history, fantasy, or anything. They are often bound in a more durable format, such as a hardcover or paperback book. Unlike serialized comics, graphic novels are usually published as standalone volumes, similar in length to traditional novels. They are bound like regular books, often with a spine and durable cover, and are designed to be read as complete works. Though some may be part of a series. Exciting, right?

🌀 Panels: Panels are the individual frames containing the artwork and text, arranged sequentially to tell the story. The arrangement and size of panels can influence the pacing and mood of the story.
🌀 Gutters: The space between panels is known as the gutter. The gutter allows for time, space, or perspective transitions and invites the reader to infer what happens between the panels. Gutters play a crucial role in the reader's interpretation of the story, as they represent the passage of time, changes in location, or shifts in perspective.
