"Nice to meet you Alexander, and I've got the lights covered." He looked at me with a confused smirk, and I expanded my mind manipulation and flicked the light switch up. With a POP, the light switch hit the top of the switch cover, and the dorm lights flickered on.

"Woah! That was so cool! How did you do it?" Alexander looked at me with a childlike wonder, and I couldn't help but laugh.

"Same way I do this." Smirking, I focused extremely hard on myself, and began to imagine what I wanted to do. Shutting my eyes, I took a deep breath and channeled energy into my manipulation. Opening my eyes, I no longer felt the floor beneath my feet. I waved at Alexander from my 'perch', five inches off the ground. He laughed, amazed at my levitation.

"So you're a levitator, then. That explains the moving light switch." He crossed his very muscular arms and looked up at me.

"Not exactly, Alexander." I sent more energy into the manipulation, using my mind to pick Alexander off the ground. He stared down at his feet, kicking them playfully in the air. "I'm a manipulator, I can control just about anything, or anyone, including myself. The only people I can't manipulate have to have a mind block, meaning I can't get into their minds at all. You, however, have a very weak mind."

"So you're saying I'm dumb then?" He gave me a fake pout as I set him back on the ground. Alexander wobbled unsteadily from the sudden contact with the ground, and I slowly set myself next to him.

"Considering you attend Havring, I wouldn't even think of considering you dumb. What I mean by a weak mind is that you haven't developed the ability to shield your mind with energy. I can easily manipulate your mind, your movements, your emotions, etc." I smirked. "Not that I would want to manipulate you further than lifting you off the ground. Which, actually isn't as hard as I would think, considering your massive size."

"Well, I guess I fooled you then. I'm a shape-shifter, so what you see now isn't my true form, which is explains how I am easier to pick up." He was smirking evilly, but the game of smack talk and besting each other wasn't over yet.

"Mm Hmm, I see." I nodded solemnly. "Well, to contradict you, you are not a shape-shifter. That is your true form, whether you like it or not, and the only reason you are easy to pick up is because my manipulation used some of your energy to help pick you up, rather than wasting mine." I flashed my most adorable, innocent smile.

He glared before he started speaking. "So I'm guessing that the ability to read minds is another part of your manipulation?" He questioned me, and the internal war began.

'Should I tell him? I mean, he seems nice enough. But what if he acts different when he figures out that I'm an anomaly?' With all the questions and debating going on inside my head as I thought about telling Alexander the truth, I was glad for the sudden interruption from my phone. I glanced down at the screen and gasped.

"What is it Mikaylie? Are you okay?" Alexander's voice seemed far away. I couldn't think straight with the name of the caller flashing on my screen.

King Lewis Varon.

"Sorry Alexander, I've got to take this." With that, I left the room.

I swiped the accept button on my phone and held it to my ear. "Your Majesty, is there trouble at the capital?" I answered King Lewis with the customary response I had been tirelessly drilled over, should ever the King call me.

"There is no trouble Miss Washington. I am simply calling to tell you that you are needed in the high court. We have some serious matters to discuss, and your expertise in other cultures would be a great asset to this court meeting. The meeting is being held in just under an hour, a flying transport is approaching your location. And, one more thing."

"Yes, Your Majesty?" This was the first word I'd spoken since answering this call, King Varon spoke so fast and to-the-point.

"Dress in something finer than your work attire." The beeping sound in my ear let me know he had hung up. I slipped my phone into my back pocket and re-entered Alexander's dorm.

"Sorry Alexander, I've got to go now. Something came up at work." I gave him a small, sorry smile and grabbed my backpack, which I somehow had not noticed until now, from the cot. Rushing out the door, I used my manipulation to locate the front doors of Havring from my location. I ran as fast as I could to the doors when I realized I was only wearing a pair of skinny jeans and a loose fitting tank top. Shoot. I rushed to a bathroom and grabbed a yellow skirt and white blouse from my bag, which I had planned to wear to the orientation event tonight. Hurriedly changing, I locked myself in a bathroom stall. Just as I was about to come out, I heard voices. My spy instincts kicked in and I went silent. The voices started getting louder.

"I told you, that rat of a king sent his little anomaly to this school! Have you not heard about the anomaly in Professor Barnden's class? I bet she's the king's special pet. How funny. She'll see soon enough that she doesn't belong here, or anywhere in Evelon." The high-pitched voice was extremely annoying, and I was tempted to go and make it be quiet, but I had work to do. I left the bathroom stall, now dressed in a floor length, pale yellow skirt and a loose, white tank top blouse that showed my well tanned arms. I smiled at the girl who had been talking about me as I left the bathroom. Before I made it out the door, however, a cold hand gripped my arm.

"Now, look who it is. The anomaly everyone has been talking about. Your face is all over social media. I don't get what the king sees though. You're just an ugly girl with weird powers, and deserve to be exiled." She sneered, and I couldn't help but laugh. She thought King Varon was courting me! Ha! That would be the day! I simply smirked before replying.

"Yes, your information is correct. I am the anomaly Portvan's king permitted. I'd love to stay and chat, but sadly, I have a high court to attend, request of King Varon himself. Good day." I pried the hand off my arm and walked out into the main foyer of the school. Brandon, a royal guard who I had become quite familiar with, was standing placidly in the foyer, awaiting my arrival.
