I hear the opening chords like a
Chorus of crying angels.
I feel the melody reach into
My heart and stir up a beast
That had lain asleep for days.
I feel that beast claw it's way
Up my throat and out of my mouth
In a choked sob,
My lips fighting to form the words
As the lyrics begin.
I try not to let my body sway.
It feels adulterous
To dance to a song that is silent
To the person you love.
For the body laying before me
Will never dance again.
It will never hum these chords
Or sing these verses
Or fall deep into the
Spell of the melody.
It will lay still, cold and quiet.
And so I will commit this adultery,
This act of fornication,
And I will dance until
My body finds its way next to
Theirs
Once more.
