"Jenna it's not that hard to do", her friend Hanna said plopping down next to her on her bed. "Just create a bio and upload a photo, it's like Facebook but sexier".
I sighed and started to fill out a dating profile on a site called, MeetMe. I know it sounds corny, but after my breakup with Zane eight months ago, I was feeling lonely. I know I'm only twenty-three and have a long time ahead of me, but I hate being lonely. Even though Zane and I remained friends, it's not the same.
Thank god for friends like Hanna Bolton who is also my roommate. Without her, I wouldn't know what I'd do.
This is my first time filling out one of these profiles. It kind of makes me feel a little nervous. Zane and I met our freshman year of college, so it's quite different. How do I know if the person on the other end is who I'm really talking to?
I finished my bio and let Hanna read it before making a fool of myself.
"Let's see", Hanna read aloud over me.Name: Jenna Wilson
Sex: Female
D. O. B: 9/7/1993
Eyes: Hazel
Hair color: Dirty blonde
Height: 5'4
Likes: Men who know what they want, white lilies, horror movies, tattoos, rock music and photography.
Dislikes: Snobs, the smell of sandalwood, ignorance, and warm beer.
I'm a down to earth kind of person, sweet, caring and fun. I'm allergic to dogs. 🙁 sorry. I do have a few tattoos. I like conversing, instead of sitting in silence. I'm a freelance photographer, and an art major.
"Sounds pretty good to me", she said. "Now, all we need is a sexy photo".
Hanna opened my photos and searched until she stopped and said, "Hot momma".
It was a photo she took of me at the beach a few months ago wearing a sheer black tank top and white capris'.
I could only chuckle because I knew it didn't matter what I said, she would still upload it anyway.
So she did just that and bam! My dating profile account was created.
"Now watch", she said pointing to the screen. In a matter of minutes I had eighteen people interested.
This was a bit overwhelming. All I could do is just stare in awe.
"This is insane", I said. "When does it stop"?
"When you meet Mr. Perfect".
I just grinned and shrugged. It may be easier said than done, I thought to myself. Is there such thing as perfect?
I doubt it. But I'm willing to find out.
"So where do I start"? I foolishly asked.
Hanna scanned through the profile and read some. Some sounded too boring, some sounded too geeky and some sounded so full of shit. She kept shaking her head and tapping the ignore button.
"Do they see that I'm ignoring them"? I questioned.
"No, but when you don't reply, they get the hint".
That seems mean, I thought. But I am a newbie at this, so what do I know?
"He's cute", Hanna said clicking on a profile. "Jeff Carson, 25, yada yada".
Then she hit ignore.
"Seems stuck on himself".
I stood up and stretched my legs out.
"I'm gonna get some wine, you want some"? I asked, knowing the answer already.
"Duh", she said and I mouthed at the same time.
I giggled to myself. So predictable. I went into the kitchen and poured two glasses of wine. Then headed back to my bedroom.
"This is funny", I said handing her the glass.
She took a sip and asked, "What is"?
I took a sip of my wine and set the glass down. "Two good looking single women sitting in on a Friday night looking through a dating website".
Hanna laughed, "Only for my bestie".
"Here, let me take a look now", I said.
Hanna got up and I took her seat. Some guys were downright rude and vulgar. It seems with every five ignores I get double interests. I've looked through a dozen before I landed on Kurt Foster. His bio seems perfect. He's 28, brown hair, blue eyes, five foot ten. Works out, likes walks along the beach, cuddling, candle light dinners. And he's in computer repair.
I like a man that can work hard and still be nerdy and sexy all together.
I tapped Hanna, "Look at him".
Hanna about drooled all over herself.
"Damn girl, he's hot".
"What should I say"?
"Say hi and thank you for the interest and do you have a twin brother", She giggled.
I just grinned. I was nervous and most likely sweating bullets all from this guy's profile. Then I turned to Hanna and asked, "What if he's a fake"?
Hanna grabbed her phone and typed in his name in the Google Search bar. She turned her phone to me and said, "Here, he's real". She had pulled up his Facebook page. Even though it was private, it was the same guy.
Ok, here I go. I typed a reply that said, Hi Kurt, thank you for your interest I would like to get to know you. I read it about ten times before I hit send.
No more than two minutes later he replied back. Hello Jenna, you're very pretty first off and second, I really liked what I read. Would love to get to know you too.
Whew, at least that was out of the way.
We chatted for a half an hour about little things. He lives about a half hour away. But still inside Los Angeles. He has a brother, not a twin named Bryan and he's married. I let him know I was an only child, but lots of cousins.
Neither of us have animals. Oddly enough he's allergic to cats and I'm allergic to dogs. I feel like I can chat with him all night. But he said he had a job in the morning. He gave me his number and asked if I can call him in the afternoon so he can hear my voice.
I blushed. Thank god he can't see me. I must have turned ten shades of red. I said sure. Then we said goodnight. I logged out of the website and placed my laptop on the desk.
Hanna just stood there staring at me with a smirk on her face. "You're welcome", she said. "When's the wedding"?
"Ha. You're funny".
"You're glowing. You're happy".
I looked in the mirror. I guess I am. This guy seems so sweet. I felt like a little kid getting a new toy. And I get to hear his voice tomorrow. I hope he sounds like his looks. Damn good!
I just can't believe it's after 11. The night went by so fast. I wasn't tired yet so I asked Hanna if she wanted to watch a movie.
Apparently we must have been more tired than we thought. We woke up on the living sofa the next morning.
