I woke up screaming and grabbing my belly. There was no cut, no blood. I was in my bed. My door slammed open. "Are you ok"? Hanna asked shakily as she sat next to me.
I calmed my breathing and said, "Just a dream. It was just a dream".
I haven't had many in the past month.
"You scared the hell out of me. I thought something bad happened".
I got up and went to the bathroom. The sun was starting to peak beyond the hill tops. Thank god for that, because I'm wide awake now.
I hope I'm in the mood for this job today. It really doesn't matter, it's extra money for me. I needed to start thinking about the baby. I do want to find out what it is when the time comes so I can buy accordingly. By that time, Zane and I should be in our own home. Whatever it is, I just want it healthy.
I checked my watch, it was almost eight. I had to be at the Bat Mitzvah by eleven to set up. I got dressed and gathered my things and set them by the door.
Hanna called to me from her room, "You hungry"?
Is she serious? "Hanna, when am I not hungry? I'm pregnant, not dead".
"Ha, lets go get pancakes".
I wasn't going to argue with her on that. As we were leaving the apartment, the new tenant was coming down the stairs. I caught a small glimpse of his before he said,  "excuse me", in a deep British accent and headed for the stairwell.
Before he got to the door Hanna yelled, "What's your name"?
He slightly turned and said, "Simon". Then disappeared into the stairwell.
Hanna and I looked at each other and said, "Simon" with an accent and giggled and left for IHOP.
It smells so good in this place I can order one of everything. Just wait till the baby starts getting bigger, I'll be waddling in like a damn penguin. Our server came and sat us in booth.
"So, what do you think of Simon"? Hanna asked me from behind her menu. I could tell she was smiling.
"I don't know. There's something about him that seems familiar", I told her. "But then again, it doesn't. You know what I mean"?
"I guess. He's geeky cute", she said, putting her menu down. "I wonder if he's single".
"My god, can you slow down"? I laughed. "The guy just moved in. Give him time".
Just turn our server came and took our order. I sipped on my water and checked my messages. There it is. A good morning text from Zane. I smiled and sent him back a good morning text as well. I hope he's doing his exercises. I would like to see him out and not cooped up on the sofa all the time. I know his leg will take time to heal, but as soon as his arm is strong enough to support himself, he can use crutches. It hurts me to think of him like that. It's all my fault for letting him come with me that day. Mark could've killed him. Mark. Someone I really don't think of that often. Did he really just give up like that? It's doubtful. He knows I'm pregnant with his child. I would like to know what he's up to. I don't trust him one bit. And if he tries anything, so help me god, he and my glock might have to meet. I will protect the ones I love from that psychopath. "Jenna, did you hear me"? I faintly heard Hanna say.
I looked up at her, "What"?
Wow I must have been deep in thought.
"I asked if you took your pill yet", she said.
"Oh, no I have to". I reached into my bag and pulled out the prenatal vitamins Doctor Morgan prescribed me. They taste awful, but it's an essential vitamin for pregnant women to take. "Sorry,  my mind was wandering".
"The joys of pregnancy".
Our food came a short while after. I ordered pancakes and eggs. For some reason I can't eat bacon or sausage, it makes me gag. Breakfast was good, and now it was time to head home. I only had an hour before I have to be at the Bat Mitzvah. After arriving home I grabbed my equipment and loaded up my car. Before I left I had to run back in to bathroom. On my way back out, I saw Rick. "Hey", I called. "The new tenant; Simon, when did he move in"?
"Last week, quiet guy, paid in cash for six months".
"Oh, Ok. Got to run. See you later".
Six months? Most people lease for a year. Why six months?
I put it in the back of my mind and drove off.

The Bat Mitzvah was lovely. I took a lot of great photos of the girl and her family and friends. Her great grandmother came in from Florida for the ceremony. It was all very special and emotional. When I was done wrapping up and getting my stuff together, the girls father came over and handed me a check. I thanked him and took a look. "Oh Mr. Weiss, this is too much". I said. He put his hand on mine and said, "You were wonderful. Take care of your family". His eyes fell to my belly.
"Thank you", I said and walked away. I stared at the three thousand dollar check in shock. This was triple what I usually make. Guess it will come in handy for the baby. I was so tired of being on my feet, all I wanted to do was crawl into bed. I turned over the engine and drove the half hour distance home.
Upon arriving home, I ran into Simon in the lobby. I said Hello and he nodded in return then walked out of the building.
