I woke a little more at ease knowing there is no camera spying on me. Today I needed to have the locks changed. I grabbed my phone and booted it up. I saw that I had over three hundred unread text messages and sixty-seven missed calls. I called the building manager; Rick, to let him know. It was quite embarrassing telling him my business, but he needed to know. I also must give him his picture when he gets here, just so he knows who to look out for. Rick is a solid guy, not totally all muscle but he was strong enough. Hopefully Mark would not try anything with him. I'd hate to witness that fight. Rick said he would change the locks soon. I had to go see Zane, not only to apologize for yesterday but to let him know what happened. I told him I was going out and he said he would hold the keys for me.
I grabbed a cup of coffee and got dressed.
I stopped at the gift shop before heading up to Zane's room. I knocked on the door. "Hi".
Zane looked over, "Hi".
I walked in and handed him a brown and white teddy bear that had a pink heart on the front that read, Get Well Soon. "I'm sorry for yesterday".
"Jenna, stop. It's ok".
I sat down next to him and hugged him lightly. "I have something to tell you".
I pulled the chair up to his bed and sat down. "The police swept my apartment. They found bugs and cameras all over", I choked out before tears welled up. "He's been watching me, in my own home. And uh", I sighed. "He got a hold of my new number".
Zane took my hand in his and just held it.
I showed Zane my phone. He was shocked at how many times he called and texted. "Wow, that's more times in one day than I did in five years". He joked. We both chuckled, which felt good for a moment. I can't remember the last time he and I laughed together.
"The locks are being changed too. He got in somehow".
"Good idea", he said.
Just then his lunch was being delivered, so I told him I was going to go. I had to get my laptop anyway. I kissed his cheek and left.
When I got to the Tech shop I apologized to the manager as well for forgetting to pick up the laptop yesterday. I just explained that I was super busy. He said he understood. He was also very worried. He asked me to come into the office for a private chat. I followed him to his office and took a seat. "Ms. Wilson, I found spyware on your laptop. Extensive. Even your Webcam and microphone. At first I didn't know, because when you're Webcam is turned on it lights up. Whoever hacked into your laptop is very intelligent and knows their way around computers", he said. "So I took out the hard-drive and saved everything you asked me to, then I wiped it totally clean. I was able to remove all the spyware. He may he good, but I'm better".
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't surprised. Why my laptop if he bugged my home? "Thank you". We walked out to the front and I paid him and left.
Slowly, justice is being served in a way. I'm starting to get some of my life back. But how much more can I go through? Does he honestly think that I'm going to roll over and give in? He's insane if he thinks that I will ever be with him again. He was the biggest mistake of my life!
As I was driving home my phone started pinging. Five times. Ugh! It's Mark, I know it is. I went into Rick's office and asked for my keys. I thanked him and went to my apartment where I laid my laptop down and check the messages.
1:24PM WHY ARE YOU SHUTTING ME OUT?
1:26PM YOU ARE BEING A BITCH!
1:29 PM I'M SORRY, I JUST WANT TO SEE YOU. I MISS YOU.
1:31PM I LOVE YOU!
1:32PM YOU DRIVE ME CRAZY!
CRAZY! That is the operative word.
Since I now had my laptop and everything was free from prying eyes I looked up flight and hotel packages. It was time for a getaway. I had printed out many different places and rates. My living room was a mess with all those papers.
When Hanna came in, we sat and looked over the papers to choose where to go.
After a half hour we both concluded. I turned back toy laptop and purchased both round trip tickets for us. Hanna can buy all the food and car rental to make up for her cost. After dinner we packed, our flight was for tomorrow afternoon. I was so lucky to get the tickets. There were only three left, and thankfully the two seats were together. It would've been weird flying together but separate at the same time. I called Zane's hospital room and let him know what I was doing; but didn't tell him where I was going, just in case Mark gets to him. He told me to be safe and have fun. He ended our quick conversation with an I love you. I did tell him I loved him too.
Hanna overheard and smiled. "So". She said, raising an eyebrow.
I exhaled, "What? I never stopped loving him".
"Are you two getting back together"?
I sighed and shrugged, "I don't know yet. It's not that easy".
I cleaned up my dishes and said, "Bedtime".
I brushed my teeth and laid in bed, thinking about Zane. It's been a while since I thought about him like that.I opened my eyes to darkness. I couldn't move. Something was holding me down. I heard a lock unlocking then a door creak open. Light illuminated in but a shadowy figure appeared. I tried to speak, but I couldn't. My mouth had been gagged. I could feel tears stinging my eyes as the figure came closer and removed its hood. Mark! What the hell, where am I? I thought. I began to panic. Then he pulled out a knife and plunged it deep into my heart, whispering, this is what you get for leaving me!
