Rosa—
"Were you ever pregnant?" Joel asked.
Brooke swallowed and nodded, "Yes. At one point I was. She was about a year when I was found. Noah, his partner, took her and ran. They're still looking for her."
"We'll pray for her, and you. We know something like this can be hard." Luke assured.
"Yeah." Brooke mumbled, "She was such a happy baby. She'd be three now, and I miss her more than ever. Her name was Alannah. It meant precious."
Papa smiled, "That's a beautiful name, Brooke-y."
"Lottie helped me with the name." She stated.
I bit my lip, trying not to show any emotion. Lottie became my best friend in pre-school, all up until her and Brooke were kidnapped. I hadn't seen Lottie in over a year.
"And who's Lottie?" Luke asked.
"Lottie was my best friend years ago. Her and Brooke were taken at the same time." I answered.
"We were sold to different people." Brooke explained, "She was sold to Shane, a couple years before the ring was busted."
Joel nodded understandingly, "Have you heard our song People Change? We wrote that out of an experience similar to losing a friend."
Brooke smiled, "Not to sound weird, but I've heard all your songs. Even before I found God again. Ros always blared your music throughout the apartment."
I looked down as I felt my face heat up. Surely I was as red as tomato, as my mom always said.
I shrugged, "It's good music, and it's fun to dance too when I'm cleaning." I laughed.
"My wife is the same way. She likes to dance with Jude and Phoenix." Luke stated.
Joel laughed, "If makes you feel better, I blare Moriah's music all the time. As she does with mine."
Brooke smiled, then it fell as she looked down. She sighed, "I wished I could find someone who would love me like you love Moriah and vice versa. Nobody's gonna love someone like me, who's slept with multiple guys and has all this baggage."
Luke smiled sadly. This had to be a difficult subject. Priceless was only a made up story. People only fall in love with their heroes in fairy tales. Life was no fairy tale.
"Brooke, God has someone for you. Be patient and love will find you." Luke smiled.
"Life's a journey, love. We all have ups and downs. I remember when we first moved to Tennessee from Australia." Joel stated, "We prayed day in and day out, just praying for some money to pay bills, or for food, or for a working car. We're here now. God definitely has a plan."
I wrapped my arm around Brooke as she sniffled and wiped tears from her eyes. She ended up sobbing.
Joel and Luke just sat there awkwardly, looking to each other, then to Brooke.
Papa spoke up, "You didn't say anything wrong, gentlemen. You said the right thing. Ever since we got Brooke back, she hasn't fit in anywhere. She was often bullied."
Luke nodded understandingly, "I see."
~*~*~
Papa sat at our dinner table after Joel and Luke left. Brooke said she wasn't feeling well and showered then went to bed. Papa was quiet as he read my copy of Priceless.
He gasped and looked up to me, "Poor Michelle. Poor James."
I laughed, "Papa, they're just characters."
He shook his head, "No. No. No. This is so well written, they feel real."
I smiled and finished wiping down the counters. Of course Papa would say that; he's always said that a good book will pull you in and you'll feel like you're in their world.
"It is well written. Very sad at times as well." I nodded.
A/N
IM BACK GUYS! For real. Okay, this story only has a couple more chapters. As much as I loved writing this story, I only intended for it to have a couple chapters. The next few chapters will be cute and very happy.
And yes, Priceless: the novel did give the inspiration for this. For those who have guessed.
Anyway! Vote and comment!
