They all said he was a beast, unfit for love. But they don't know everything. They don't know what made him this way. For what he had felt that night was absolutely destructive.
***
"Hello?" An exhausted Christian spoke into the phone, confused at who was calling this late into the night. It was almost two in the morning and he had wanted to get some good sleep before his parents arrived the next day for Christmas break. "May I ask who's speaking?"
"This is Officer Gregory from the Manhattan Police station, are you Christian Knight?"
"Yes," Christian spoke wearily, already dreading what was bound to come next.
"I am calling to inform you that Mr and Mrs. Knight were found in a car accident..." He paused for a second, as if bracing the poor kid for what was coming. "They didn't make it. I'm sorry son."
The phone fell to the floor, the glass screen cracking into a million pieces...
just like his heart.
***
It was a normal, peaceful night; a light breeze causing tiny snowflakes to dance through the air. It was a perfect night to travel.
Or so the couple thought.
Mrs. Knight smiled at her husband as a familiar slow song came on the radio. She turned up the music and little louder, the soft melodies putting a calming effect in the atmosphere.
"Do you remember this song?" She asked Mr. Knight. "It was our wedding song."
He smiled and nodded, bringing their clasped hands up to kiss the back of her hand.
"Of course I remember." He replied looking back to the road. His mind muddled with thoughts and memories from his past. Ones of his beautiful mate sitting next to him; of when they danced the night of their wedding; when he claimed her as his from then on and forever; and of his baby boy, they were now traveling to visit. They were beautiful memories, ones he loved to repeat over and over in his mind.
"Watch the road or we'll crash," Mrs. Knight laughed, watching as her mate smiled and shook the thoughts out of his head, focusing on the road ahead.
Then it happened...
The tires spun, hitting a patch of hidden ice. Mr. Knight gripped the wheel tightly trying to get the car under control. Headlights illuminated the inside of the car, as another car swerved into their lane, just as Mr. Knight gained back control over their car.
Mr. Knight quickly turned to look at his wife, the three words he wanted to say just a ghost on his lips; as the other car smashed into theirs. The loud clash that reverberated miles around them awoke no one, but then everything was quiet.
The soft snow falling onto him and his wife caught Mr. Knights attention, as blood drained from their bodies, spilling out onto the asphalt. Mr. Knight stared up into the cloudy night sky, his mind on thoughts of all he got to see in his life. His loving mate, his beautiful boy; As far as Mr. Knight was concerned he had lived a wonderful life.
And that was how it would stay...
