Today was finally the day I was going to go shopping for my wedding dress, and I was so excited. I was taking Claire, Maria and my Mom was over in the mainland, and we were going to stay over at a hotel nearby and go out at night. It was my first time leaving Harper alone, and I felt slightly nervous at her being left with Owen and Barry, but Owen was going to give him a live tutorial on everything to do with babies, and give him his top tips. I laughed when he told me as he pretty much has no secrets or tips, but I let him believe he did anyway.
"Are you going to be good for daddy?" I cooed over her as Owen held her at the doorway as they said goodbye.
"She'll be fine!" Owen said casually.
"Owen, I'm serious, don't let her out of your sight I mean it! And whatever you do, don't do that thing where you-" Owen shut me up with a kiss on my lips.
"Babe, I've learnt from the master at motherhood, we're going to be fine." he laughed.
"Okay..." I said, shifting from foot to foot.
"Come on Rosie! We'll miss our boat!" Claire called from her car.
"You have an amazing time, alright? I love you." Owen kissed me on my forehead.
"I love you both, so much." I said, gulping down the lump in my throat.
"Oh babe, don't cry, you'll be back tomorrow!" Owen soothed me.
"I know I know.... It's just it's my first night not being with her." I hiccuped.
"I'll send you hundreds of photos okay? Thousands!" Owen said and I nodded.
"Well you make sure you do!" I composed myself just as Claire honked the horn again.
"I'm coming!" I shouted, kissing Harper and Owen one last time before running to the car. I waved from the window until we got round the corner and bit my lip to stop the tears from falling.
"Rose, it's gonna be alright! I'm not gonna judge you if you have a little cry, you know?" she smiled.
"No... no, I'm fine." I took a deep breath, "let's have the best weekend ever!"
We met my Mom and Maria in the shopping plaza where the dress shop was.
"My best friend's daughter got her dress from here, and it's absolutely stunning." Maria gushed. She had recommended it to me, "they're all beautiful and handmade, and the materials are all locally sourced!"
"I do like to support local businesses." I pointed out, just as we arrived outside. It was a beautiful little wedding boutique with stunning intricate gowns on display in the large windows.
"I think I'm in heaven." Claire gasped as we walked inside.
"Hello, my name is Lena, who is the bride to be?" a young Costa-Rican girl walked over to us. She had long jet black hair that was braided on top with bright strings weaved in, and she had caramel coloured skin and long black eyelashes.
"That would be me." I said shyly.
"Congratulations on your engagement! Is there anything in particular you had in mind?"
"Thank you!" I smiled, "and I'm thinking something quite minimal and elegant with maybe lace on top?"
"Sounds perfect. Now, would you like a full skirt or single or double only?"
"I don't really have a preference." I replied and she nodded with a grin.
"Okay, if you'd like to follow me, I'll show you some dresses and then you can pick a selection to try on!" she explained. We went through a little archway and suddenly we were transported into a large open room that extended backwards, and there were racks and racks of white, ivory and cream dresses. There a separate section which had brightly coloured dresses which were clearly prom or formal ball dresses.
