Adeline's POV
My best friends and I followed Luna to her car once we had gotten checked out, chatting about what we had done in school that day. As we got closer, I remembered we were going to get some dinner, and raced to the car, calling "Shotgun!"
Avery and Hermione were close behind me as I slammed the door in their faces. Luna got in next to me, laughing. "You three," she chuckled. "How does Chick-Fil-A sound?"
We all nodded yes, and Luna turned her high tech car out of the huge parking lot for all the White House workers. The drive to the nearest Chick-Fil-A took about 5 minutes. Before we got out of the car, Luna set the car's window tint on super dark while we took off our White House badges. We wouldn't want anyone getting any ideas, after all!
We all got out of the car and paraded to the door. Once we had ordered our food and sat down at a cozy corner booth, Luna pulled her iPhone 51 out of her purse (All White House workers got the brand new iPhone editions in advance, along with extra features such as quick and easy but very secure locks and top secret apps that needed all these identification tags).
She scrolled through all her alerts while my other cousins and I compared our shoe sizes and laughed at Hermione's small feet.
I glanced out of the corner of my eye and saw a worried frown grow on Luna's face as she inspected one of her voicemails.
"What is it, Luna?" I questioned her.
"Umm...well, this voicemail from 3 minutes ago just said I was needed at an emergency meeting at the White House. There's some urgent news concerning the President. I must have missed the call when I was driving."
My friends and I glanced at each other. Urgent news couldn't be good, right?
Just then, the waiter brought our food. "Have a great evening!" he said.
"Well, I'm sorry girls, but looks like we're heading back to the White House," said Luna. "Your parents aren't off work yet, but you can hang out in your room, eat your Chick-Fil-A, and we'll go out for ice cream later. Okay?"
We knew Luna couldn't control the meetings. We were disappointed, but we all nodded our heads and, grabbing our food, headed back out to the car.
As we were pulling out of the parking lot in the growing dark, I noticed someone slip behind the corner. When we turned that direction, I saw that person was a clown, dressed in striped pants, and polka dot shirt, with a creepy smile and holding balloons. He was watching our car...and his eyes trained on me.
I let out a small gasp. Everyone turned around to look at me, and I stared at back at them, eyes wide.
"Look!" I pointed frantically. "It's a clown!"
Luna and my friends craned her head to see the clown staring at us. It wiggled its eyebrows at us, shot at us with a pretend finger gun, then turned and ran away, out of sight, just as Hermione was frantically opening her phone to take a video.
My friend's faces were pale, but also somewhat excited to be seeing a clown for the first time. Luna took charge of the scary situation.
"Hey, everybody calm down. You guys know clowns have been running around a lot recently, right?"
We nodded.
"So it's okay. Now I have to get back to a meeting, so let's head on back to the White House."
We nodded again, staring at one another with wide eyes, but not really scared anymore. Hermione looked enthralled at what had just happened, a million scenarios probably running through her mind, Avery now looked ready to laugh at the situation, and I...just didn't really like clowns all that much. Although, the 5 minute drive back to the White House seemed longer, because all of us were staring out the windows keeping our eyes peeled for clowns.
