The Date Night

Passing my sight through random strangers, meeting the eyes of hopeless souls.

As I combed my hair with my soft, cold fingers, I could feel my heart beating as fast as it could.

I pulled the table cloth lightly as it went between my fingers, slowly freezing with my cold touch.

"Ma'am, are you waiting for someone?"

It was the waiter, dressed in a black attire while holding a white cloth on his arm. He looked nervous and busy, something that you would clearly see in a ballroom at nine.

The ballroom was quite crowded; couples spinning around, clinking glasses and gossiping. The aroma of the air was quite fair, yet it could fill up your senses with delightful imagery of food.

"Ma'am?" The waiter repeated, raising the tone of his deep voice.

"Oh, I am deeply sorry"

"Yes, I am waiting for someone"

The familiar faces couldn't be spotted by the absence of a clear image on everyone's face. A diversity of masks were consuming the faces of the party guests. From former lace, satin and encrusted faux gems, to the basic plastic ones.

The guests had unquestionably unique formal attires. The boldly black tuxedos and bright outstanding dresses could leave anyone with their mouth open easily.

Everyone had a partner on the dance floor, the table or even at the ballroom corners where the lighting was perfect for a late night romance fantasy.

In the meantime, I was waiting for a non-existant date to come around while waiters questioned me, looking for my partner.

From there, nothing was the same.

A shadow in the distance, reaching for my area while wearing a simple black mask. I knew who it was, but I couldn't even dare to mention his name that night. I was so afraid I would mess up, or that he wouldn't even come to the ball in the first place.

After all, it was for Team Mystic members anyways.

"Is this seat taken?" He said, passing his hand on the chair softly.

"No, it is not" I responded, shaking.

He smiled, curling up a small part of my wig with his finger.

"I still don't get it"

"Get what?"

"The wig"

"Oh, I needed one-"

"But your natural-"

"It is white, I know. Everyone would notice it is me, in this gown"

He looked at me as I stood up, turning around so he could see my attire that night.

"Woah" He said, somehow admiring that blue dress.

"Do not do that, I had enough of the guests in here"

"... But you look stunning, Ma'am"

"... I do not"

"Okay then, Miss, Ma'am, however you want to be called"

"Call me Adrienne for tonight" I responded, extending my hand towards him.

"It would be an honour if you could dance with me tonight"

"Oh, it would be a pleasure" He said, holding my hand with such delicacy.

We both rushed to the dance floor, looking around on how couples danced to each beat, flawlessly.

"..."

"What?"

"I do not know how to dance..." I said awkwardly.

"Not an issue for me" He said, placing one hand on my back, while the other one slowly interlocked fingers with mine. He signalled me to put my hand on his arm, slowly smiling.

After that, we quite had some issues to dance, but it was not such a big deal.

"Blan- I mean Adrienne, stop stepping on me"

"Oh, my apologies"

"Hmph"

"Now, I have a question for you"

"...?"

"What is your name?"

"Call me..."

"Can I be named Pikachu? Or sassy gingerbread cookie?"

"... Gosh, you ruined it"

"Oh come on, Adrienne. I want to be named sassy Gingerbread cookie"

"Why sassy Gingerbread cookie though?"

"Because I'm sassy. And I like a song about a gingerbread man, so yeah"

"... You mean the kid gingerbread man song?"

"Nope, not at all"

"It reminds me of you, actually"

"Really? A song about gingerbread?"

"Mhm. When you can, just look it up on the music streaming"

"Fine, Ginger" I finally responded.

Just with that quite awkward name, they continued to dance through the night, looking at eachother, losing their thoughts over those eyes. Their fingers were numb, but they could not stop dancing.

This was the only chance they had to speak with eachother again, after the team chaos.

"I don't want this dance to end"

"It does not need to end"

Or is it?

Just for the curious minds, if you write gingerbread man on YouTube, you'll surely find the song he was speaking about :)
