chapter notes: so this is much shorter than any other chapter i've posted, but this seemed to do. i also didn't want to shove too much into it and make it somewhat gaudy. but yeah, it's shorter, but i think you'll like it. let me know what ya think in a comment!
She spent the night in Bruno’s bed, his arm around her naked body and his body heat radiating off him and warming her cold bones as much he could. His breathing was short, but even. Lola’s, on the other hand, had been rapid and deep and furthest from even. She couldn’t seem to stop thinking about Harry and his hands and his warmth, and, well, him.
“You’re not sleeping,” Bruno said through closed eyes.
“Can’t.”
“You’re thinking too much,” he said, turning on to his side so he could look at her. The blanket slung low between their two bodies. “Want to talk about it?”
She shook her head and put her hand beneath her face, “Not really.”
His smile was small and he placed a gentle kiss to her lips. “That’s all right,” he whispered. His next kiss was harder. “It’s quite all right.” The next he had his hand behind her head and was pressing down his open lips onto hers.
They stayed like that for a while, and then Lola managed to shimmy her way on top of Bruno and began planting the lightest of kisses all over his chest, fingers grazing his only tattoo on his right shoulder. His hands moved up and down her back, then toyed with her hair as she positioned herself on top of him.
“Better then sleeping and thinking too hard?” He moaned out breathlessly.
A small smile crept onto her lips and she kissed his. “Much better.”
It wasn’t until 9 a.m. the next morning when Lola began feeling the thoughts creeping up on her again. She’d taken a bath; Bruno included, and drank about three cups of tea to ease her mind (not that it had worked). But she hurt, and no matter how much tea she could consume in one sitting, would the pain that’s been building up just leave her system.
“Hey,” Bruno said quietly as he pushed a loose piece of her hair back. “You all right? You look upset.”
She attempted a smile. “I’m fine, just a bit tired seeing as not much sleep was had last night.”
Bruno laughed and kissed her cheek, “Right, how could I forget that.” He paused and just looked at her with a wide grin that seemed to bring the sun out on a cloudy day. “Anyway, I have work and I’m going to be late if I don’t get going.”
“Don’t let me hold you back from your duties,” she said with her hands still holding the ceramic mug with a quote painted on the front of it.
“I wish I could stay,” he said sinking back down into Lola’s side, his lips landing on the skin just below her shoulder.
“No, no, no,” she said pushing him up. “You’ve got to get to work. Can’t have you be late now.”
“You’re right, I suppose. I’ll see you later,” he said with his lips meeting her cheek. Just as quickly, he disappeared out the door without another word. And she didn’t feel the slightest bit better on her own with only her thoughts of Harry to keep her company.
