Fear is a drum
Pounding into my skull
Burrowing into my head
In an endless thrum.
Windows shatter
And walls tumble down
Defenses breached,
What I've done doesn't matter.
I tried to hold out,
Tried to stand firm.
But all I achieved
Was destruction by a longer route.
'Cause fear's black water
Carries a heavy undertow,
And a single wrong step
Will send you to slaughter.
So I'm sorry for the things I've done
But even more for the things I didn't.
With fear hammering on my door,
All I wanted to do was run.
And now here I've gone
And wasted away my years,
Running like a coward
Instead of standing strong.
