Lily's P.O.V.
Close to my lunch time, I seen Derek come in and sit down at the back corner table. He looked stressed out or something was definitely bothering him. After two more tables and cleaning up my area I took my lunch.
He seemed surprised as I sat down across from him with two plates with actual full meals. Even though it was a coffee shop we ran as a small resturant too. I slid one plate and the cup over to him. He raised both eyebrows then opened his mouth.
"Don't say anything. Just go get something to drink, then we can talk." I said before he could get a word in.
Derek nodded then got up and went over to the drink machine. I noticed as he passed by two girls giggled then looked up at him. I bit my lip because he looked oblivious to it. As Derek passed back by he looked over at them and smiled. This caused the girls to go in a fit of another round of giggles and blushes.
He sat back down at the table and took a sip of his drink. At first he bit his lip then picked up the silverware and dug in to his food. After his first couple bites he wiped his mouth then said
"Thank you. You have to be the best roomie in the world. I mean you redecorated my room then bought me lunch, what's next a kiss?"
I laughed then said "Only in your dreams. But you are welcome. I feel like you don't belong anywhere but you do."
He took a sip then nodded and went back to eating his food. He didn't say much after that but the silence wasn't all that bad. Before I got up to throw my plate away he caught hold of my wrist. I looked up at him and the look in his was weary.
"When you get back from throwing your food away can I be serious with you?"
I only gave him a sharp nod then he released my wrist and I went over to the trash bin. A million thoughts ran through my head then, what could he possibly want to talk to me about? Was he in relationship and didn't want to take things with me anywhere, not like I wanted that in the first place, but still? Was he in some kind of trouble?
The list continued, each with a brand new set of questions, questions upon questions just tumbled through my brain. I sat back down and bit my lip waiting on what he would tell me.
"Lily, I just went to five or six different places and applied to get a job but I don't know if I'll get the job. I've never been the type to keep one, one reason or another something always comes up or they think I did something. The last job I had the girl complained that I was touching her but I never touched her, she had just started when I had been there almost five months. I'm not that type of guy, yeah I may look but-"
He took another breath and started over "I just want to let you know that I do have a temper sometimes when I'm starting over. It's always hard for me. Your right I feel like I don't belong anywhere, my mom and dad kicked me out when I was 16."
Derek frowned then stopped talking about it all together. I put my hand atop of his and gave a it gentle squeeze. I didn't know what his past life was like but it was clear he was trying to live his life with a good conscience. But then again everyone had a different quirk about them. I was only seeing the good side, I didn't know about his bad side.
Before he could start again my phone beeped then my manager came out of the back and shook her head. I knew then that something was up and it didn't look good.
"Derek if you don't get a call back from any one of those other places I could talk to my manager. We do need the help, like really need the help."
"You would do that? Help me by getting a job here?" He asked astonished that someone would be willing to help him out, again. I nodded and smiled at him. I reached out to take his hand in mine to reassure him that together we could get things paid and done. But decided against it and withdrew my hand.
