"Ok here we are!" The woman announced joyfully as we approached a building. The building looked almost like a prison, not a place for kids to stay. A look of confusion appeared on my face as we grew nearer to the grayish building.

"Um ma-ma'am? Is-is th-this really an orphanage?" I asked, realizing how shaky my voice was. "Yes of course Zach!" She smirked. "It's Zane...." No answer. A sigh escaped my lips as the woman pushed the dark oak door open and pulled both Jackson and me inside.

The door slammed close, causing a loud echo through the halls. Her smirk turned into a frown while she dragged us past all the other rooms. Each room with a locked door with a slot to put stuff through and small barred hole in the door.

The woman stopped in front one door and unlocked it, opened it, and pushed Jackson and me into the room. "Enjoy your stay Zach. And Jackson, no dinner for the rest of the week." She slammed the door closed and the sound of locking it echoed.

"Stupid Ms. Snow." Jackson grumbled before laying down on something that looked almost like a coffee table. There was two of them. The one that Jackson was laying on, which was against the wall to the left of me, and then one under a barred up hole, which I'm guessing is supposed to be a window.

"By the way, these are beds if you're wondering." I nodded slowly and sat down on the "bed" under the window. "Me and my stupid loud mouth. Could've saved you from this hell hole..." I raised an eyebrow, not understanding.

I know this place looked like a prison and there isn't good furniture and... actually.... there was barely anything else in the room. Just the "beds". But what else could be bad?

"Jackson, why are you saying this is a 'he'll hole'?" He sat up and sighed. "You're probably thinking this is like a prison. Well it is. Kinda. Just for poor kids who don't have families. Now, I have to say, Ms. Snow is the meanest person ever. The food here is terrible. And most kids here that are still alive are trouble."

"Are there any good children here?" He shook his head. "No. Good children who don't get adopted decide they had enough and escape. If they don't....." He looked down at the floor, his eyes filling with tears.

"What would happen if they don't?" He sighed and wiped his eyes. He looked me in the eye and said "They would kill themselves. Hang themselves, stab themselves to death. Also they could starve to death cause of not eating the food served or if they get punished a lot. Also Ms. Snow is very abusive."

He took off his shirt, showing scars all over his body. Also you could see his ribs from how skinny he was. "These scars are not me hurting myself. These are from Ms. Snow, punishing me. Sometimes, instead of saying no food for a certain amount of time, she will grab a knife and will cut you...."

He slipped his shirt back on and stared at the floor. "That is terrible. Why hasn't nobody said anything to authorities?"

"Those who never had to stay here for at least a while to see what she does think she is just a sweet woman who homes orphans..." I nodded before yawning a little.

"Well, we should get some sleep. Night." Jackson laid down and immediately fell right to sleep. I did the same, but took awhile to fall asleep. Sounds of dripping water echoed through the orphanage, not really helping me fall asleep.

"Don't worry Zane, she might not have to mess with you. Tomorrow you might be adopted and leave." I mumbled to myself. From the information that Jackson gave me, I do not want to stay long.

"Just forget about it...."
My eyes shut for a second and never opened again.
"Just forget about it...."
